Savannah’s Italian palace got a lot of publicity last year. As well they should. Years in the making, owners Donald Lubowicki and Jeffery Downey finally saw this project through and got their doors open last Fall.
The idea was to build a place where you felt just as comfortable stopping by for a glass of wine and a bowl of pasta on your way home as you would celebrating a major event in your life. The space is stunning. The food is excellent as well. We have a handful of good Italian restaurants in Savannah, but when when you take what they are doing at La Scala, toss in a great bar and their attention to detail with service, this award was easy to hand out. And much like any other new restaurant, it will only get better from here.
The menu is somewhat sophisticated but simple. Just like their sister property though, Circa 1875, there is zero pretense. La Scala was built for Savannah to enjoy. Regularly.
