Sunday Quick Bites – Feb 2nd

*Well, after the story blew up two weeks back, ownership at Molly MacPherson’s Scottish Pub may be having a change of heart about closing their downtown location. There are discussions about finding a way to stay open. We hope for details soon.

*Hilton Head Island Restaurant Week starts tomorrow. See the line up here. It’s a great one.

*If you missed the announcement a few days back, Husk has announced they are hosting a series of dinners this Winter/Spring featuring other chefs from across the South. The 1st is on February 11th. See full details and line up here.

*From the “oh by the way” department: Our Fork and Dagger Latin Diner Pop Up dinner was a huge success on Friday night. Two sold out seatings and lots of smiling faces. Brian Torres and Sky Hoyt absolutely crushed it with food, service and hospitality. That Cuban Coffee Cheesecake with Churro Crust? Lawd. Their plan is for more pop-ups down the road.

*Got nothing going on tomorrow night? Check out Cohen’s Retreat’s Black Truffle Wine Dinner.

*Our friends at Cafe M on Factor’s Walk are doing something different for Valentine’s Day week. Four courses for $26 in one of Savannah’s more quaint settings. Gentlemen, don’t sleep on this one. A stroke of brilliance if you want to avoid the crowds on Valentines Day.

*Then there was the time that someone went to a local Vegan cafe and afterward left it a 2 star google review. “Didn’t like it. It was all Vegan food.” Yes, that actually happened. C’mon people.

*I was invited to dinner in Ridgeland recently. I was promised authentic Mexican. The flavors coming out of Panaderia e Mini Super in downtown Ridgeland are straight out of my grandmother’s kitchen. What do I recommend? Everything we had was delicious. And crazy inexpensive. It’s a bakery, a cafe and a mini Walmart all in one. Go see them. About 1 minute off of I-95 at Exit 21 in South Carolina.

*In Savannah, quite possibly the best deal for a quick bite out there is at Savoy Society on Liberty Street. The Korean Sliders are fabulous. And, wait for it…the Crispy Spam and Cheese sliders at happy hour are $1.50. I don’t know about you, but 2 of those and I am good to go for a while. The charcuterie board is HUGE. Enough to feed an army. Jane is doing some great things in that space. More on that soon.

*Zach at Cotton and Rye tells me they are tossing around the idea of a Mardi Gras dinner. When we spoke, he was actually headed to New Orleans for R&D. Tough gig, huh? For the record: Mardi Gras is February 25th this year.

*Speaking of Mardi Gras week…Here’s your reminder to grab your tickets for events related to Hilton Head Island Seafood Festival. February 24th through March 1st.

*Go Chiefs. Enjoy the game.
