If you don’t know their story, you should. Somewhat legendary around these parts. Three ladies with an idea for a food truck eventually decide to make pizza. They didn’t just wing it. No, instead, they went all in. With training, with product quality and with the passion to execute a new business.
The result was Big Bon Pizza. Not only some of the area’s best pizza, but very probably the best food truck in Savannah/Hilton Head Island. It went so well out of the box, that they considered a ‘brick and mortar’ location to expand their pizza operation. After research and discussion, they decided against the pizza idea, but not against the brick and mortar portion of their expansion.
Wednesday Kaye Heritage and her team revealed their plans.
Big Bon Bodega will be a wood fired bagel shop and market is coming soon to Savannah’s Starland District. The corner of Bull Street and 37th Streets to be precise.
The menu will include bagels, ‘shmears’ as well as fresh on-the-go items.
Fans of Big Bon Pizza and their very popular pop ups around town will know that Kaye, her daughter Anna plus their chef, have been working on perfecting the idea of a wood fired bagel. They look fantastic. Soon you will get to try.
Big Bon Bodega will not be a pizza restaurant. Pizza may be a special once in a while addition to the menu there, but it is important to note that the only place to consistently enjoy the pizzas that made them famous around here will continue to be from their food truck.
We will have much more with the ladies of Big Bon soon. They are hoping to open in December. In the meantime, they’ve created a kickstarter campaign to ask the community to help them get this latest project off of the ground.
