A preview of the holiday season: Pop ups, pre-orders, dinners and more…

Is it ever too early to make some plans for your holiday season? I mean, I know the ‘holidays’ don’t officially start until Thanksgiving, but around here when you get as busy as we do for Halloween, it can sometimes feel like one long ride between October 31st and January 1st. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with that, but the amount of activities going on in and around Savannah could overwhelm most people. That’s what I thought it could be helpful to list out some pre-Thanksgiving events and happenings that you should know about.

*There are a lot of Halloween parties going on this year and it seems like all of them are going on Saturday, October 28th. One of them you may not know about is at The Brice. The Kimpton Brice Hotel is hosting a special Death by Disco Halloween Party on Oct. 28, 2023, from 8pm-12am, inviting locals and visitors alike to experience this unforgettable night! It features a live DJ, a silent disco, spooky cocktails, and a three-course dinner at the on-site restaurant Pacci (for VIP ticket holders). Package options are available via Eventbrite.

*Electric Moon Skytop Lounge, a popular rooftop bar located at Plant Riverside District at 400 W. River St., is thrilled to host Freakshow! A Haunted Carnival Halloween on Friday, October 27 and Saturday, October 28 from 8 p.m. to midnight. Guests will enjoy an unforgettable evening showcasing creative Halloween cocktails, a live DJ and captivating live performances. Attendees are invited to wear their most creative Halloween costumes and to witness mesmerizing performances by Kaleidoscope Circus stilt walkers, character actors and cirque-style fire artists dressed in scary Halloween costumes.

*If you haven’t heard, Savannah’s hottest pop up is happening every week (Tuesdays and Wednesdays only) at Strange Bird, the diner at Barnard and Henry Streets in Savannah’s Victorian District. Running the show is Chris Hathcock, former Executive Chef at Husk Savannah. Chris has been blowing his guests away with his offerings the last two weeks. The menus will rotate weekly, the first example is below. It offers cuisine inspired by Chef Hathcock’s travels through Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam. He’ll be there-again ONLY Tuesday and Wednesday nights beginning 5pm through November 29th. No reservations. Walk in only.

*Speaking of pop ups: Nixtate is the new Mexican Street food concept going into Starland Yard. They won’t be open until early 2024, but they are beginning to pop up at different restaurants around town offering some of the dishes they will be selling once the doors open in Starland. November 13th they will be at Sobremesa Wine Bar on Abercorn Street. On November 17th, they’ll be at Over Yonder…also on Abercorn street.

*For those that don’t feel like cooking and looking for something different at Thanksgiving, one new spot is offering to do the heavy lifting for you. Sweet Patricia’s Bakery at Habersham and 34th will begin taking pre-orders for all of your Thanksgiving goodies on Monday October 20th. They will run through November 19th. They are doing pretty much everything except the Turkey.

*Finally, if you are skipping all of that fun then the best way you can officially kick off the holiday season will be at the Olde Pink House’s annual Holiday event. They don’t host parties often, but when they do, they go big.

The Olde Pink House, is hosting the 2023 Olde Pink House Holiday Celebration on Thursday, November 30 from 6:30 until 9 p.m. This event is open to the public, with proceeds benefiting The Habersham Pink House Scholarship at Bethesda Academy in Savannah, Ga.

Chef Vincent Burns and his culinary team will offer some of their most popular creations, which will be expertly paired with The Olde Pink House’s signature beverage offerings, including Woodford Reserve bourbon, Castle and Key rye whiskey and Casa Herradura tequila, to name just a few. This memorable holiday celebration will celebrate more than 250 years of history at The Olde Pink House and will feature chef-prepared hors d’oeuvres, creative holiday cocktails, fine wine and more.

“This annual event is very special to us, and we are thrilled to open our home to you, your friends and family once again this year to celebrate the holidays,” said Craig Jeffress, general manager at The Olde Pink House. “Of course, one of the added benefits of this festive holiday celebration is that it helps us further the mission of the Women’s Board at Bethesda Academy and provide scholarships for local students.”
