The coffee tastings we normally see are for new roasts or new shops, but this weekend’s Hemp’d Coffee Tasting and Conversation in Bluffton is not about beans or a new location. This one explores other uses for hemp.
“Hemp has more benefits than just CBD,” Cynthia Groff, owner of Sativa Health Products, told us.
“Hemp protein powder is a complete protein. Three tablespoons of hemp protein equals the same protein as a steak.”
The coffee tasting is Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 3 Lawton Street in the heart of Old Town Bluffton.
This is the second coffee tasting this summer. “We’re set up outside like a little bistro.”
“We have a barista set up with French press as well as some pour-overs.”
The retired nurse said the hemp coffee doesn’t have CBD, but it does have health benefits from amino acids and flavonoids. Groff does sell a CBD coffee that will also be available to taste as well as hemp food products.
“We are featuring our Statera Quick Bites, which are like mini muffins, and they’re made with hemp hearts [seeds] and hemp protein powder.”
Another food item to try is the Buffie’s Kitchens Hemp’d jams. Groff said they have half the sugar of regular jams. She compares the taste to a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
