Tybee Island Fish Camp Closes

Just like that, it is gone.

Eat It and Like It has learned that Tybee Island Fish Camp, one of the island’s favorite spots for upscale seafood has closed its doors. For good. The news came late last week, as the two sides were unable to lock in on a new lease at 106 Campbell Avenue on Tybee Island.

Fish Camp established a solid following in its 3 plus years on the island. Regulars will undoubtedly be devastated by the news.

Monday afternoon, Kurtis and Sarah Schumm, owners of Tybee Social Club as well as the “Former Fish Camp” released this statement to us:

Dear Campers; Patrons, that have become family:
We’ve seen your engagements, anniversaries, celebrations and special occasions. We love and thank you. We have been unable to renegotiate a lease for the building located at 106 S. Campbell Avenue, The Tybee Island Fish Camp.
With this great sadness, it brings us great joy to look ahead to new opportunities. We will be merging the two sisters, Tybee Island Social Club with Tybee Island Fish Camp and cobranding the two under the Social location, 1311 Butler Avenue. The new menu will be under the direction of Executive Chef/Owner Kurtis Schumm. The menu will marry cult favorites from both locations and will include a raw bar in addition to many new dishes. Sarah’s interior design tweaks will include both identities for a comfortable, beachy-chic aesthetic that both are known for.
Thank you for four years of love, support, and camping.
Peace, Wind & Restless Sails,
Kurtis & Sarah Schumm

There is no word on what will become of the house at 106 Campbell. It was built in 1958 and has lots of work done to it in the last few years.

  1. This a truly disappointing–my partner and I were “Campers.”

We have a gift certificate and we wonder whether the Kurtis and Sarah provided any information for persons who may be holding gift certificates for TiFC?

Not sure how I’m gonna make it without their lobster risotto, every now and then……or the bbq octopus………..
