Tequila’s Town expanding – to Jacksonville

Savannah’s favorite spot for Mexican food is making its own run for the border. South of the Border, that is. Tequila’s Town, with two locations in Savannah and a 3rd on the way in Pooler is in the process of remodeling a 4,000 square foot plus space on Atlantic Blvd in Jacksonville. The hope is to be open by June.

“We weren’t really looking to open another location.” says Melody Rodriguez, who along with her husband Temo, own Tequila’s Town. “We got a phone call from someone in Florida who suggested we come look at a space previously occupied by a gastropub.”

“We went and looked at it and it makes sense for us to go for it.”

The new Tequila’s Town will be located at 13475 Atlantic Blvd in Jacksonville, a stones throw from Atlantic Beach. It will be part of a shopping center anchored by Fresh Market. Traffic won’t be an issue.

“It’s a lot of space.” Melody tells us. “It will be similar to our space in Sandfly. We will have live music there and a lot more space to do different things.”

One of those things will be the current wine cellar. It will be converted to hold a tequila collection.

“We are working with the designer who has done some of Ele’s spaces.” she says “We are going to take this opportunity to try a few new things with design. Evolve our look and the brand a little bit.” Melody says.

That mind set also goes for work on-going in Pooler. Same great food we’ve come to love from Tequila’s Town, but there will be enough space to install a tortilla maker. Melody and Temo have been hoping to make their own in-house for a few years. In Pooler, space won’t be an issue.

“If it goes like we hope, those tortillas we make in house we will distribute to our other restaurants and also sell retail in Pooler.”

First things first.

“Pooler is going to be beautiful. We will have a deck for outdoor dining looking out on a pond out in front.” Melody says.  “We hope to be ready by August or September.”

Meanwhile, Jacksonville is a remodel, not a build out so it will move a lot quicker.  If everything goes perfectly, (Which it frankly hardly ever does) they hope to be open by early June.

We will certainly keep you posted.

See you on TV
