TCL to host Virtual Chef’s Table Fundraiser

If we can agree on anything this year, it is the fact raising money for worthy causes has probably set records for creativity. Virtual is the name of the game in 2020, with Non-profits wearing out their thinking caps in an effort to creatively raise some much needed funding.

This one may be the best one you will see this year.

The Culinary Institute of the South at Technical College of the Low Country in Bluffton is putting on a fabulous show next Wednesday evening and everyone is invited to watch, be entertained and hopefully chip in a few bucks.

By way of background for those who are not aware, TCL is in the process of building a state of the art cooking school facility in Bluffton. Clearly, it is the first facility of its kind in Bluffton and yet another indicator of the need to provide a bubbling food scene with talent to maintain it and grow.

Building these types of facilities costs lots of money. There have been a number of fundraisers over the last couple of years. The one we are having next week is just different.

For one hour next Wednesday (6pm) we are hosting a unique experience absolutely free to watch and enjoy. I say we because I will be serving as your Host for the evening. We will be coming to you live from inside the current kitchen at TCL’s New River Campus on Highway 278.

During that hour, students will prepare dinner for our Chef’s Table all around us. I will be walking through the kitchen, chatting with students and some professors about the food being prepared and learn a little more about their experience.

At our “Chef’s Table” will be a panel of guests who have been vital to the creation and development of the culinary program in Bluffton. The round table discussion will hopefully give our viewers an idea of what the vision is for the school and the future of the food scene in the Low Country.

Of course, the plan is to have some fun with food, offer some entertainment to you and in exchange, compel you to chip in a few dollars to help us reach our goal. The goal for Wednesday, I am told, is in the 5 figure range.

We need your help. And, of course, we come bearing gifts and items to offer you in exchange. There will be a significant auction going on DURING this live event. All of the items available for view online. Some of the items will be scrolling on the screen below our kitchen demo and round table discussion.

I’m excited about this event for multiple reasons. First, it was an honor to be asked to host this first of its kind event in the Low Country. Second, and most importantly, I can see the future. I see a day where some of these grads will be staying in the area opening cafes or working their way up the ladder and helping create the next great Low Country restaurant.

If you want to achieve big, you have to dream big.

Do you want your food scene to grow? You need qualified kitchen talent to learn the ropes, get themselves qualified to work in a real world kitchen and THEN make the decision to stay in this area to do so. This will help that cause in a very big way.

First things first, we need YOUR help. We need you to join us next Wednesday 6pm. And see what’s cooking at TCL.
