Savannah’s newest Italian restaurant opens Downtown
The first of 3 new Italian restaurants to roll out onto Savannah’s food scene opened this week in the Historic District.
Veratina has begun lunch service at 606 Abercorn Street between Huntington and Hall Streets. If your memory feels a bit jarred, it should. A number of restaurants have come and gone in that space over the last several years. The most recent was The Haunt, a plant-based restaurant. The most popular to have existed there was Leoci’s Trattoria roughly a decade or so ago.
The new owners are a Pittsburgh couple who moved to Savannah to open Coop DeVille, a casual eats fried chicken restaurant, at the Eastern Wharf project. Construction on that project took a while, but it has begun. While they were waiting for that one to get going, they decided to open an Italian restaurant down the street.
Wait until you see what they’ve done with the place.
The renovation is beautiful and was desperately needed. A long time dark space has been replaced with an open plan and brighter colors. It will be a wonderful addition to the Southeastern corner of downtown Savannah.
Service will be lunch only for now. 11am-4pm. A wine and liquor license has been applied for. Once it arrives, they will begin regular dinner service.
The menu looks fairly straight forward. The early buzz is that it is very good. We are looking forward to trying ourselves in the next few days. We’ll let you know how that goes.
