Running off at the keyboard while enjoying a fantastic work/play summer so far.
*If you missed my blog last week, a quick reminder that tomorrow (Sunday) is our last show of our 7th Season. Some restaurants you may know about, one you definitely should. 7:30am on WSAV-TV.
*The name of that restaurant you should know about is Olive and Fig in Bluffton. Early returns, some of the best Mediterranean food in the area. I will be writing more about that tomorrow.
*We will be in re-runs until September 23rd. In the meantime, lets eat:
*No joke, one of the best things I’ve eaten in months in Savannah. Red Chile Cauliflower Tacos at Bull Street Taco. Not usually something I would order but I was told they were excellent. They were right. Roasted Poblano, Arbol Sauce, Basil Cream and toasted sesame seeds. Chef John Massey is doing a great job over there.
*The Croque Madame at the brand spankin’ new Emporium Kitchen and Wine Market is exceptional. One of the best I’ve ever had. If you haven’t popped in on Emporium yet, you should. Drayton Street downtown across from McDonough’s. Adjacent to the Perry Lane Hotel. Which is nothing short of amazing, by the way.
One other dish we’ve enjoyed the last 30-60 days is the Coffee Rubbed Marinated Ribeye at Fabulous Frankie Bones on Hilton Head Island.
We’ve mentioned it a few times here and there the last few months, but Drink It and Like It is coming this Fall. More on that later. In the meantime, be sure to follow that page on social channels. Facebook here. Also Twitter and Instagram.
Tomorrow night, Savannah Chef Brandy Williamson and her friends are hosting an event in honor of Chef/Author Anthony Bourdain. A lot of food and beverage talent were inspired by Mr. Bourdain. Sunday night’s event will feature live music, food vendors and a lot more. All money raised from this event will benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Tomorrow night from 5pm until 9pm. Read more here.
On Saturday, July 14th, Southbound Brewing Company is hosting their 2nd annual “Get Saucey” event. Contestants are invited to make a chicken wing sauce using a Southbound beer. Winners get a few prizes and bragging rights. Guests (with tickets of course) get some great beer and the chance to try the sauce with some Bowtie BBQ, who’s food truck will be on site. More information here.
Speaking of beer, in case you missed it, Leopold’s Ice Cream has a new flavor. Using beer. Click here for the full story.

Sometimes I miss the beginning of a segment and miss the name and location of the restaurant. How about repeating at least the name at the end. Maybe at the end of the show, run a list of the places you covered with their names and locations.
I have lived in Bluffton over 20 years and really appreciate what is going on here with the food scene. You should give “Dolce Vita” a look. Great Italian. Joe and Arlene do a wonderful job.
Thanks for the show. Trina Johnston
