Savannah’s Tricks BBQ makes move to Garden City official

For seemingly months, it was one of the worst kept secrets in town. Tricks BBQ, a legendary ‘roadside bbq’ stand on Savannah’s Bull Street was going to be closing up shop at that iconic location and moving to Garden City. It wasn’t a matter of if, but when.

The time has apparently come. With Trick’s making the announcement via social media.

There was no tearful explanation. There was no goodbye message to anyone who visited the spot on Bull Street. Simply, they are moving.

The why is fairly simple as well. The building, near the heart of the Starland neighborhood-2601 Bull Street-has been sold. There was some discussion about Tricks remaining in that location post sale. Ultimately, they chose to move. Their new space will be 1902 West Bay in Garden City.

The move is not entirely a surprise considering the change coming to Starland in the next 18-24 months. Just last month, a developer purchased the building across 42nd street from the former Tricks BBQ space with plans for a food hall and wine bar. Work has yet to begin there. Meanwhile, the former Starland Dairy is being restored and renovated as well. That will feature a few hotel rooms and an anchor restaurant.

Meanwhile, for its part, The Jinx, a very popular live music venue that closed on Congress Street downtown back in 2020, is making a comeback. Work has begun at Whitaker and 43rd on the new home of The Jinx.

The changes, really, are just the beginning of change in what has become a ‘locals downtown’ if you will. No one will argue Starland’s popularity, but now there will be one less lunch time spot. For now.
