Random Ruminations August 4th

Running off at the keyboard while celebrating the arrival of football season. Hey, it may only be pre-season, but I’ll take it.

*Summers in and around Savannah are generally quiet. Not this one. Two new pizza spots have opened in Starland a couple of blocks away from each other, a new Chinese restaurant on Whitaker Street downtown and more good eats on the way.

*Speaking of that Chinese, Flock to the Wok is wonderful. Read all about it here. But be patient or go mid-week. Saturday night they were on an hour wait at 6pm. Not surprised. Our write up has been the most read piece in the last 4-5 months. Do you think Savannah was starving for great Chinese? Ha!

*How about some Fried Chicken? Mark your calendar for Saturday, August 24th. The Garden City Food and Music festival will feature a Fried Chicken contest. Headliner music act is Tracy Byrd. Click here to read more.

*Eat It and Like Its restaurant weeks continues through next Sunday, August 11th. See list of restaurants and menus here.

*Nunzio Restaurant and Bar is new on Hilton Head Island. More Italian for an area that already has several great Italian options. Looks like a beautiful space. Looking forward to trying them soon.

*Italian in Savannah, La Scala is hosting a 6 course dinner Tuesday night with Ghost Coast Distillery. Click here for more details.

*Top 2 or 3 things I’ve eaten the last 6 months is the Boheimian Chickie Salad at the new Coco and Moss on Ellis Square. Certainly the best salad I’ve had in a while. Diced roasted chicken, Japanese sushi rice, quinoa, hot chickpeas, cabbage, spinach, onion, cilantro toasted almonds and curry dressing. Absolutely outstanding. I could Eat It and Like It every day.

*We started production of our 9th season of television a few weeks ago. It will premiere in September. Part of our line up this season will include a look at some rock star steakhouses, late night eats and a trip to one of my favorite food courts in the South. More on that soon as well.

*I will never pass on an opportunity to thank you all for your support. For reading the website, for watching the videos, for passing along the information we put out.

*Our newsletter is rocking and rolling. We’ve settled into an every Wednesday groove. All you need to know to stay in the loop on the food scene. You can text EATIT to 22828 to sign up or do so on the website. Either way, it’s easy peasy.

*Or follow us on social media. Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

*Quick reminder that Crystal Beer Parlor is going to close for 3 weeks beginning tomorrow (August 5th) while they do some upgrades in their kitchen. Read more here. They are NOT closing for good.

*The Fat Radish is getting good reviews. Now they have a happy hour menu. 3 cocktails and several munchies all under $10. It’s a beautiful space. You should check it out. Read more here.
