New Bagel Shop set to open in Downtown Savannah

Spread Bagelry, an original Philadelphia-based Montreal-style bagel establishment, is set to open its first Georgia location in downtown Savannah this December. This signifies the third Southeast location for Spread Bagelry, following its successful opening in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina with a shop in downtown Charleston not far behind.

Spread Bagelry will be located at 6 W. State St. in the heart of the North Historic District, facing Wright Square. The store will begin serving its distinctive Montreal-style bagels to the public next month, offering more than a dozen select bagel flavors made from locally-sourced ingredients and wood-fired in an open facing oven in-house.

“We’re thrilled to introduce our bagels to Savannah,” said Jamie Schrotberger, CEO of Spread Bagelry. “It’s an honor to bring our business to such a lively, flourishing city and we cannot wait to build relationships with the community and its visitors as they come to try the best bagels in the country.”

Founded in Philadelphia in 2010, Spread Bagelry has grown to 12 locations in Pennsylvania, one in New Jersey, two in South Carolina, and its latest in Georgia. COO Brooks Tanner and CEO Jamie Schrotberger expanded to the South in 2023 following their success in the Northeast region.

They take pride in the idea that each Spread Bagelry is unique, mirroring the individuality of their bagels. To date, their Southeast location has continued to distinguish itself by setting new sales records across shops nationwide.

By definition, a Montreal-style bagel is distinctly boiled in honey water and baked in a wood-fire oven. In comparison to what is known as New York-style bagels, Montreal-style bagels have a golden brown crust and are sweeter and chewier.

Spread Bagelry at West State Street will be open for breakfast and lunch, seven days a week, from 7AM to midafternoon. The small batch bakery is dedicated to quality, not quantity. Stores typically close around 3PM when the supply of fresh bagels no longer meets the demand.
