Game Day SAV: Where to watch
This has become one of those assignments I look forward to every year for a couple of reasons. For starters, I write the piece every late Summer as we roll into Labor Day weekend and, for the most part, our options in and around Savannah are largely the same. We all have our favorite spots to watch our favorite teams, but knowing some good options across town is always a good move. Headed downtown? We got you. Don’t feel like dealing with those crowds and difficulty parking? We’ve got that too.
One note of criteria: Just because you have a TV or 2 hanging on a wall, doesn’t necessarily qualify a space as a game watch spot. This list is for serious game watchers.
This indoor/outdoor venue features Savannah’s largest viewing area. You will hear it before you see it. It is UGA Central. While the Dawgs are playing, don’t expect to see any other game on a television here.
River Street’s best game watch spot. Period. TVs everywhere featuring multiple games. Saturdays and NFL Sundays. The food is good too. Try the spicy bloody mary
The Warehouse Bar and Grill -River Street
River Street’s 2nd best game watch spot. Multiple TVs featuring a variety of games. The Warehouse is a no frills (dare I call it a dive?) spot featuring a sizable beer list and some decent bar food. The go-to here are the burgers and wings.
World of Beer – Broughton Street and Pooler
This national chain makes the list simply because the sheer number of televisions featuring practically every game available. Broughton Street location is 2 floors. That’s a lot of space to find your favorite game. The beer list is massive and they serve food as well. A safe choice any weekend.
OUTSIDE OF DOWNTOWN SAVANNAH
This is Savannah’s largest (and we believe oldest) true sports bar. Coaches is also a favorite for locals. Dozens of televisions in this indoor/outdoor venue. The wings are considered by some to be the best in the city. Plenty of parking make it easy as well.
Desposito’s Seafood – Thunderbolt
Desposito’s is one of local Savannah’s favorite seafood restaurants. Which means the food is great. Out back, they feature a massive horseshoe bar surrounded by televisions. As is the case, when Georgia’s Bulldogs are playing, don’t expect to see anything else. Outside of those lines though, this is solid game watching.
OAK 36 bills itself as having a ‘downtown’ vibe in Savannah’s midtown section. The former means good food, the latter means plenty of parking (it shares a strip mall with a Publix Supermarket). Either way, it’s a solid choice if you are looking for something featuring few decibels than one of those ‘stadium-esque’ spots downtown.
Other solid choices: McDonough’s (downtown), Poes Tavern (downtown), Green Fire Pizza (Pooler), Boston’s Pizza and Sports Bar (Pooler),
