Amelia Island Dining Month: It’s not what you think
I’ll admit it: I assumed Amelia Island’s Dining Month worked just like restaurant week. Fixed price, three courses, done. I was wrong, and I got the full story straight from Madison Jozsa, Director of PR and Social for the Amelia Island CVB, on the latest episode of the podcast (embedded below).
Now in its third year, Dining Month runs the entire month of September with 23 participating restaurants, up from last year. But instead of locking everyone into the same format, the CVB gives each restaurant the freedom to decide what best represents them. As Madison put it, “we allow them to have the freedom to showcase what their business can do best.” That means the lineup ranges from flip-flop-casual beach sandwiches to five-star tasting menus, all under one promotion.
There’s a charitable piece too. Guests can scan a QR code on participating menus and donate directly to this year’s partner, America’s Youth, alongside the Interfaith Dinner Network and Salvation Army. It’s optional, not built into the bill, which Madison said was intentional so restaurants weren’t given “one more thing added on their plate” during an already busy promotional month.
We also got into why September might be a smarter time to visit than you’d think. The beaches clear out after back-to-school, the weather’s still summer-warm, and the island’s events calendar stays packed straight through the holidays. Madison summed it up simply: Amelia Island is, at its core, “the sleepy, charming beach town” locals want to keep it that way.
