Every year in August, you can count on me running through the city….in my head, it’s too hot otherwise, trying to figure out which are Savannah’s best spots to watch a football game on any given weekend. My particular criteria is simple and it really hasn’t changed in a decade or so. Number of televisions is important because that generally means a variety of games to watch. Nothing more frustrating than walking in to a spot, seeing (for example) Georgia up 43-3 on Elon in the 4th quarter but the staff will absolutely not change channels on any of the 35 televisions until that game is over. Been there, done that annnnnnd took my business elsewhere.

The other major rule I have when considering what to recommend is simple: no one will care if you drop an F-bomb following that critical late 3rd quarter 3rd down. There are a lot of places in Savannah that are restaurants with several televisions around, but I wouldn’t take the guys there and get rowdy. The places on this list can handle the volume, and I think that is important. Not every spot with a television is on this list, obviously, because that doesn’t make you a game watch sports bar.

B&D Burgers – Congress Street location -209 W Congress St, Savannah, GA 31401
This goes at the top of my lists every year strictly because it is massive and also Georgia Bulldogs Central Casting. You can typically hear it before you see it on a Saturday afternoon. B&D has a huge outdoor patio with the games projected on a wall of the building next door . Inside, it’s a full bar on two floors plus alligator-themed decor that somehow works. Build-your-own burgers, a strong beer list, and enough seating — inside, outside, upstairs — that you’ll actually find a spot on Saturday. When UGA is playing, that is what you are usually watching, FYI. Savannah’s Georgia Alumni Gamewatch Spot: Flying Fish, Wilmington Island

Savannah Taphouse – 125 E Broughton St, Savannah, GA 31401
Set inside the old Avon Theatre on Broughton, this is downtown’s volume play: 28 HD TVs, three projector screens, 40 taps and 100-plus bottled beers. It’s the rare spot where the historic bones (exposed brick, original theater signage) don’t get in the way of the sports-bar energy. Drink specials run every game day. Get there early — this is the one everyone already knows about, and it fills fast. FYI, when this spot first opened years ago, the food was a big ‘meh’ in my book. I’d send people there but suggest they eat elsewhere first. It has since been sold to a local group who is doing great things with that menu. Enjoy. But, yes, get there early, especially on Sundays.

World of Beer – Downtown on Brougton and Pooler
The Broughton Street original — more beer bar than sports bar, but don’t let that fool you. TVs are mounted wall-to-wall above a long bar, indoor and outdoor seating, plus an upstairs section for overflow. The draw here is the tap list, deep and rotating, so it’s the move for the fan who wants a real beer program alongside the game rather than a wall of domestic buckets. Standard fare bar food. But the number of televisions is why you are there.

Dub’s Pub – 225 West River Street, Savannah 31401 –The best of River Street watch spots.
River Street’s only dedicated sports pub, full stop — two dozen-plus TVs in a converted riverfront warehouse. Everything on the menu is made in-house, from the beer cheese to the pulled pork nachos, and there’s a private banquet room upstairs if you’re planning a proper football watch party. It’s also one of the few River Street spots where you’re not fighting tourist-trap pricing to watch the game. It is locally owned, which matters as well. If I need to watch a game and I am required to be on River Street, I am at Dub’s or I am home. It is that simple. A fair honorable mention is around the corner at Poe’s Tavern. Lot’s of TV’s at Poe’s and a pet-friendly patio.

McDonough’s Restaurant & Lounge. 21 East McDonough Street, Savannah 31401
Downtown institution since 1985, still family-run, still no-frills. It’s better known for karaoke and the best happy hour in town, but it’s classified as a sports bar for a reason — TVs, a long bar, and a crowd that skews local and late-night (open till 3am most nights). Less about the screen count, more about drinking with people who’ve been going here for decades. Karaoke is a Saturday night staple, so if your game kicks at 7:30pm? Go somewhere else to watch it because by the time you get deep into the 2nd half, it’s more than likely Jeremy will be on stage belting out Pearl Jam’s version. Any other night and Sunday afternoons? You are golden.

Coach’s Corner (Thunderbolt). 3016 E Victory Dr, Thunderbolt, GA 31404
Savannah’s flagship sports bar for over 30 years, and it’s not close — 50-plus TVs, an outdoor stage called the Soundgarden for live music, and a menu of wings, calzones, and pizza that’s stayed consistent that whole time. Braves, Dawgs, and Falcons are the house teams, but there’s also a full slate of trivia, darts, and cornhole for the non-sports crowd in your group. A legendary spot where you will see everything. And the games, too.

Coach’s Southside. 11215 Abercorn Street, Savannah, GA, USA
The new one — opened Black Friday 2025 in the old Tailgate Sports Bar space on Abercorn Street. Same ownership family as mothership Coach’s but run independently from the Thunderbolt original, with a new 50-foot bar and all-new TVs. Menu is intentionally copy-paste from Coach’s Corner — same wings, same chicken fingers — but it’s open until 3am, which nothing else on the Southside touches. It’s the best Sports bar south of Victory Drive. I can say that with confidence.

Others that are worth considering depending on your particular flavor of enjoyment: Oak 36-Midtown Savannah, Starland Yard, First City Brewing and Service Brewing Company Downtown.
