5 Things to know about Savannah Food and Wine Festival

First of all, I say the same thing every year. This is Savannah’s best week in food. Easily so. Now in its 7th year, the Savannah Food and Wine Festival continues to offer food, fun and drink to people of all ages in all kinds of price ranges.

If you love to nosh and sip, keep reading. A few things to keep in mind if you are going to join us beginning November 4th.

*Savannah’s Culinary Cool is a first time event highlighting female talent in the city. List of participants include:

  • Lauren Teague, PACCI Italian Kitchen & Bar
  • Martha Nesbit, Author/Culinary Instructor
  • Kay Heritage, Big Bon Bodega & Big Bon Pizza
  • Meredith Sutton, Service Brewing, Co.
  • Bridget Michalski, Savannah Wine Cellar
  • Teri Bell, (aka: Miss Sophie) Miss Sophie’s Marketplace
  • Cheryl Day, Back in the Day Bakery
  • Margaret Adler, Chef, Hostess Provisions
  • April Spain, Collin’s Quarter at Forsyth

This will be a panel discussion including most of the participants. The $40 price tag includes a beer or glass of wine and samples from 10 different chefs.

*The Secret Savannah Speakeasy has established itself as the best party of the week. When you consider we regularly get some of Savannah’s best restaurants to participate year after year on a Thursday night, that’s reason enough. Add in the fact that the yearly Bartender Challenge contestants are all there pouring their favorite cocktail and you can easily decipher that at $80 it is probably the best value the week. It’s all inclusive. Sip and nibble to your hearts content. Just make some time to dance and enjoy the music.

*The secret is out about the annual Q Masters BBQ event on Friday night. It was great in year one. Better in years 2 and 3. There is no greater collection of BBQ talent in this city at any point during the year. How popular is it? The event starts at 8pm. Folks will start lining up at 7pm. The BBQ is obviously excellent. The selection of bourbons and other beverages to go along with them, equally so. Truthfully, one of my favorite events in Savannah every year.

*Taste of Savannah is exactly what you think it is. A giant party with several thousand of your closest friends. If you don’t like crowds this is not for you. HOWEVER. And this is a big, however, Taste of Savannah is an absolutely beautiful event in one of the prettier settings in the city. If you are willing to get there early, as in 11am before they open the doors at 12noon, you can enjoy a pretty relaxed time eating and drinking and liking. Get there early. If you get there early, you really do have time to stroll and nibble with minimal lines. That’s best advice of the week, by the way.

*There’s an event in Pooler this year. At Savannah Quarters. Savor the Flavor is a Sunday afternoon event aimed at letting those who don’t care to fight traffic downtown Savannah enjoy festival activities as well. A great deal at $39, Savor the Flavor makes for a great time in a beautiful venue.
