They had a good run. Times, however, are changing across the food landscape in the area. The latest news is the closing of Little Italy on Wilmington Island, which for a good while was, without question, the most popular restaurant on that island.
“The space was just a little too big for us to operate how we wanted to.” says Stephen Hamile, CFO and CEO of La Famiglia Restaurant Group. “We found a better move for us was to sell the building we had owned for a while.”
Fans of chef Reuben at Little Italy can still enjoy his pasta creations at Grandview on Tybee Island. He will be offering a pasta buffet on weekends through October.
In addition to Grandview, La Famiglia Group own a number of spots around town, including Terra Mia in Pooler, Cuoco Pazzo at 606 Abercorn in the Victorian District and the extremely popular Bella Napoli on State Street downtown Savannah.
“We’ve got some changes on the way at Cuoco Pazzo in the next 4-5 weeks that we think everyone will be excited about.” Hamile says.
We’ve seen those plans and agree, the new concept will be a welcomed addition to Savannah’s neighborhood food scene.
We’d also love to see everyone downtown at Bella Napoli. If you haven’t visited yet, you don’t know what you are missing.” he says.
In the short term, there are plans for a Picnic in the Park ‘pre-game’ party on their patio and a total menu transition shortly after that.
La Famiglia operated Little Italy on the island for just under 3 years.

We tried this restaurant out but noticed the rice was clearly packaged, portions small, and fish was NOT fresh.
So, not at all surprised. I’m just sad that they charged WAY TOO MUCH for the meals and cost local residents far more than they should have.
