Treylor Park’s Pizza Party nears opening in Savannah’s Victorian District

Seven restaurants later, Trey Wilder and his team have themselves a little Trailer Park Empire. Two are on tap for Chatham County and a 3rd is set to open in July in St Augustine, Florida. If you are a regular around here, then there is no breaking news. We first talked to Trey Wilder, one of the principles in Treylor Park Restaurant Group some months ago about their plans for expansion. Last week we updated it all because their newest location in Savannah, Treylor Park’s Pizza Party is just a few weeks away from opening in Savannah’s Victorian District. Here is my conversation with Trey. It has been edited for brevity and clarity.

JB: What is Treylor Park’s Pizza Party?

Trey Wilder: It is a new concept for us, but it is not outside of our umbrella. You’re still gonna get your staples from Treylor Park. Nachos, wings, your banana peppers. What we are doing our twist on is the pizza. We are also bringing in our hot pockets and we are doing a twist on our nachos. You’re going to get the same vibe. You’re going to get the same experience. We’re just throwing in some pizza. It will be like half treylor park items and half pizza.

JB: I remember when you opened Hitch (at Liberty and Drayton Streets) you wanted to do something more for locals who didn’t want to go all the way down to your original location on Bay Street. Is this now the next level of that? Going into a residential neighborhood to have something for people who don’t want to go ‘all the way downtown’?

Trey: Yes! Tourism has expanded so much that now Hitch is overwhelmed with tourists. Now we are trying to be more local. I wasn’t really familiar with that area (Victorian District) until I went and introduced myself and went to talk to a neighborhood group a couple of months ago. A couple of other restaurants have popped up there, like SHUK (Mediterranean). It’s a really cool area. It’s got a lot of diversity. We are excited.

JB: For those that aren’t familiar with the Habersham corridor now, it’s Kroger, then you guys, then SHUK, then Fork and Dagger, Tacos and Tequila, Sweet Patricia’s Bakery and then Cotton and Rye. That makes up a pretty interesting stretch along Habersham Street in the heart of Savannah.

Trey: And like we said, all of them different. It’s a good little stretch over there.

JB: The St Augustine project (photo below). I saw some photos the other day. I was shocked at how far along it was. What’s the timeline there?

Trey: It’s about the same timeline as pizza party. We are looking at about 4th of July. We aren’t opening 2 in one week. So if one of them has to wait, it will be St. Augustine.

JB: Finally, Tybee. Your location there. What’s the timeline on that?

Trey: We are looking at Fall for that. We were hoping to get it open for the season, but once we took the layers off the walls there, we realized we needed to start from scratch. That building has been restaurant after restaurant. Add on after add on. We didn’t want to put any band aids on anything. Jim Sheffield has been a great landlord for us so we wanted to do everything right. They are hitting it hard now.
