Start spreadin’ the news. We are very happy to share that Restaurant Week in Savannah is back.
If you pay any kind of attention to the landscape around here, then you know we’ve seen some serious growth over the last few years. ‘Post pandemic’ travel was at or near record highs in and around Savannah in the first couple of years ‘post 2020.’ Restaurants were breaking all time revenue records multiple times a month. Yes, they were that busy.
Last Summer was the first time we heard that numbers were falling back to something more resembling ‘pre-2020’ which means soft-ish Summers and likely a ‘soft-ish’ Winter ahead.
For that reason, we’ve decided it was time to bring Restaurant Week back. Savannah’s restaurants clearly agree. As of this writing, we’ve have commitments from over a dozen restaurants. We are hoping to have as many as 25 on board by the time we roll out, maybe more.
Some of the Savannah’s best like Fleeting, Rhett, St. Neo and Dottie’s Market are involved as are some of the most popular casual concepts like Desposito’s Seafood, Tortugas in Thunderbolt, River House and Dockside on River Street and the Crown and Anchor Pub in Pooler. We have verbal commits from many others.
We think this is coming together beautifully with something for everyone in all price points.
Speaking of price points, we’ve decided we are going to let restaurants set their own prix fixe for 3 courses to a maximum of $60. Some might be $35 for 3 courses, some might be $45 for 3 courses. Some will be more. You will know ahead of time before you make your dining choice, of course. Look for menus to be posted no later than January 10th. All menus will have their price points listed.
Those are the nuts and bolts. Now a quick editorial….From my seat, we hear a lot of locals bemoaning the fact that Savannah has become overrun by tourists and touristy restaurants. While I don’t necessarily agree with that notion, I do recognize the fact that larger crowds make getting around downtown Savannah a little more complicated. Point taken, but that doesn’t mean it is impossible. That said, crowds will never be at a lower point any time during 2024 than they will be the final week of January and into early February. It’s the perfect time to take a ride to see downtown Savannah and enjoy some of the great eats that have been making national headlines for a few years now. Our local restaurants are looking forward to hosting you.
