The wait is over….Lulu’s Chocolate Bar’s new location on Whitemarsh Island is ready for you. They’ll open their doors on Thursday, January 4th.
The new space is in the location formerly occupied by J Thomas Kitchen, which closed at the beginning of the Summer. Within days, the ladies of Lulu’s-as I like to call them-had made plans to move their entire baking and catering operation there.
They’ve been baking in there since August all the while building out a roughly 60 seat space that includes a bar. This new space doesn’t go heavy on the pink like their original location on MLK, Junior Blvd does.
“Because we are on the islands, we wanted to feel a little tropical.” Is how Janine Finn, co-owner of Lulu’s describes it.
“We like the lemurs.”
The offerings will include everything you can find downtown, including the full liquor bar. The space in between the restaurant and their production kitchen is an open early grab and go cafe where all of their sweets-along with coffees-will be available beginning at 8am.
The aren’t any plans to stay open too late. Finn and her business partner Rebecca Freeman aren’t interested in making this a late night bar. They expect to stay busy with couples coming through either before or after dinner elsewhere.
The lighting is soft, the space is beautiful. We expect it to be very popular with the islands crowd and people driving to or from Tybee. You get your chance to see beginning next week.
