Skull Creek Dockside

The search has been ongoing for probably as long as anyone can remember. When you visit one of the most popular island’s along the Atlantic coast, you can best believe someone is not only looking for great seafood, but in most cases a view to go along with it.  The perfect sunset? Yeah. That makes it even better.
For years, Hilton Head Islanders have enjoyed that combination at Skull Creek Boathouse. That spot is legendary around these parts. Now that legendary status is extending next door with the creation of another waterfront gem, Skull Creek Dockside. The food? Similar. Atmosphere? Bumped up a couple of notches from the Boathouse. The scene? Well, how can you argue with a dining room in which every table offers a panoramic view of the water?
“We’ve kept a lot of similar elements from the Boathouse.” says Executive Chef David Luther. He’s been in charge at Dockside since day one. “We are primarily a seafood driven restaurant.”

That is, without question, true. You can now come out to the waterfront and enjoy some great steaks, house smoked BBQ, maybe some pastas, but around here, seafood will always drive the bus.

“Our Dockside combo, Dockside Sampler on the menu includes a crab cake app, a taste of our shrimp casino dish, our seared scallop dish.” Luther says. “So it is a nice way to try everything on the menu.”

“The Shrimp Casino might be one of our most popular dishes.” he says. “We take bacon, onion, peppers, bread crumbs and stuff it into some U12 shrimp. We also use that stuffing for stuffed flounder.”

The Shrimp Casino is outstanding and among their most popular. The other most popular dish

“We do a Seared Salmon. Topped with a nice glaze with mustard sauce. Collard greens and baby sweet potatoes.” Luther says. “That always does well here at Dockside.”

It’s rather obvious we cannot forget we are ultimately in the South. Which is what makes Dockside’s brand of Southern Hospitality so special.  Outside and adjacent to this beautiful space is their soon to be famous Shark Bar. Shark Bar is the kind of spot that makes waiting for a table a pleasure. There are plenty of televisions, seating and of course delicious cocktails. All of it aimed that making your evening out for dinner an experience rather than just a meal.

You can enjoy the full menu out at the Shark Bar when the weather is cooperating with you. Or you can take your party back indoors. If your party is too big for their main dining room, well then you might just be able to look into some event space upstairs. A full upper level of banquet space with full unmatched views of Skull Creek. It’s used for birthdays, rehearsals or corporate events.

“We hosted Coca Cola for 2 parties during Heritage back in April” Luther says. “We do a lot of rehearsals and showers up there. We can fit about 80 people comfortably up there.”

Meanwhile, the kitchen downstairs is a well-oiled machine. They are turning out some of the best eats on the island. Allowing you to sit back, relax and enjoy the show from mother nature. Namely a perfect night with a perfect sunset topped with the perfect cocktail.
