Savannah’s Jewish Food Festival Returns Sunday

You wouldn’t think so, given all of the attention that Savannah’s food scene has been getting regionally and nationally, but the annual food-centric event that Savannah locals look forward to most every year is two fold. The Greek Food Festival is held every October and then there’s the big one on Monterey Square early November.

The annual Shalom Y’all Jewish Food Festival returns to Monterey Square on Sunday, November 9th, running from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Hosted by the historic Congregation Mickve Israel, this beloved community event celebrates Jewish culture, cuisine, and fellowship, attracting thousands of locals and visitors.

Now in its 36th year, the festival is absolutely a culinary highlight for Savannah, featuring a rich array of traditional Jewish fare from both Ashkenazi and Sephardic traditions. Festival-goers can savor signature dishes like potato latkes, chicken shawarma, New York deli sandwiches, blintzes, matzo ball soup, and a variety of delicious desserts such as black-and-white cookies and rugelach.

Also this year just like last, they will be selling alcholic beverages for anyone interested all the way up until closing time at 4pm. Last year sales were required to end a little earlier.

Long time attendees don’t have to struggle to remember when it was a fairly large event at the foot of Forsyth Park. The festival has since become a takeover at Monterey Square (Bull Street at Gordon) with vendors lining the streets around the square in celebration of the occasion.

Speaking of lines, I’m told people will begin lining up for food around 10am. Sales will begin promptly at 11am.

Beyond the food, the festival offers a vibrant atmosphere with a full lineup of live entertainment—including music and local performances—and a dedicated kids’ zone with interactive games and activities. Admission to the event is free, with food and beverage tickets available for purchase on-site or online. The proceeds support Congregation Mickve Israel’s educational programs and preservation efforts.
