Random Ruminations from the Region’s Food Scene July 2026
For the most part, it has been quiet around here. It usually is this time of the year. Slower at any rate. That doesn’t mean there is nothing going on. There always is. And as always….there is good news and bad news.
Madame Butterfly, the Korean BBQ concept on Congress Street closed their doors last week. We were told (haven’t confirmed it yet) that they are planning to make it an ‘upscale Mexican’ restaurant. More on that soon.
Big time bummer on Drayton Street. Casa Guava-home of Savannah’s best Cuban sandwich-announced they will be closing at the end of the month. You may remember they made a similar announcement over the winter, but then decided to keep the doors open. I don’t suspect that will happen again. If you want to get your hands on one, you’ve got until the end of the month.
Speaking of Cubans, there are plans for the owner of the former Cuban Window Cafe to open a restaurant on 41st Street in the Starland District. Concept not known yet. But we will keep you posted.
Also in Starland, Leopold’s Ice Cream has eyes for a space on Bull Street near 40th Street. Look for that soon.
And because many of you will ask, I spoke to Stratton Leopold about their flagship location on Habersham and Gwinett a couple of months ago. That project is in progress. It’s just moving slower than anyone would like for a number of reasons.
More openings – Limani, the Greek Restaurant owned and operated by the folks behind beloved Olympia Cafe on River Street have been going through their soft open phase. They are hosting a ticketed grand opening celebration on Friday night, 7pm. The menu (below) is a greatest hits from one of Savannah’s most popular eateries. Click on the graphic if you’d like to secure your seat. There are a handful left.
If you missed our story last week, 6 or so months after they closed their location on Savannah’s West Side, Tricks BBQ is making a return to Waters Avenue. full story is here.
Cup to Cup Coffee now has a retail coffee shop on Wilmington Island. In the space formerly occupied by Good Greens on Johnny Mercer Blvd. Read more here.
Monday will be the first time you can Eat It and Like It at The Wyld Dock Bar on a Monday. They’ve traditionally been closed on Mondays. That changes as of July 13th.
Shuk Mediterranean Restaurant on Habersham also announced their plans to go dinner only. Beginning 5pm, Tuesday through Sunday. They do offer Brunch service weekends 11a-3:30p.
At the same time, Brochu’s Family Tradition announced their plans to open on Tuesdays. Making them now a 7 day a week operation.
Service Brewing is planning a 12 year anniversary party on July 25th.
Don’t sleep on the smash burger at Carey Hilliard’s. Best $11.39 (including fries) you might spend in town. Photo below.

Speaking of Burgers- The 2026 Eat It and Like It Burger Bash kicks will feature specialty burgers from Savannah to Beaufort beginning August 22nd until September 3rd. You will be hearing much more about this beginning next week.
Lester’s Raw Bar opened on June 23rd. I haven’t had a proper meal there yet, but I’m hearing great early buzz from there. Not surprised.
Meanwhile, Marbled and Fin opened in April and I have yet to hear a single person share a negative syllable about it. Outstanding across the board. Also not surprised.
In the Low Country, Capri Pizza HHI opened Wednesday to great reviews. It’s the island’s first Chicago style pizza, pasta and sandwiches in quite some time. Sister restaurant to the VERY popular Coastal Capri Italian Restaurant. Worth the drive from Savannah or Sun City? If you love the flavors of Chicago, absolutely.
Burnt Church Distillery has started a Supper Club. Seats are under $100 and include cocktail pairings (smaller sized ones) good news is, they can offer a mocktail pairing as well. Read more here.
Healthy Habit HHI is now offering ice cream. Soft serve. You’ve got to try it. Read more here.
The lonnnnnng awaited Frosty Frog is now opened at New Riverside in Bluffton. Go check them out.
Had a burger at Cahill’s in Bluffton a while back. It was HUGE. Delicious, too.
Last but not least, I took a road trip through North Central Florida last weekend for the 4th of July. 14 towns, 29 locations, 4 and a half days. I saw some fascinating things, ate some wonderful food, met some amazing people. There was so much in fact, that I’ve decided to make a special podcast series out of it. That wasn’t the original plan, but I have a lot to share. If you love visiting the Sunshine State once the weather cools off like so many do, keep an eye out for that. Coming in September.
And oh, btw, school is starting soon, we are over the hump. If I’m not mistaken, classes begin in Chatham County on August 3rd.
