Random Ruminations from the food scene: February 2025 Edition
Running off that the keyboard hoping…make that praying…that these temperatures can hang around for the next 12 weeks, give or take an hour.
*I will start at the end with a heartfelt thank you to all who visited some of our participating restaurants during Restaurant Week. It is still going through the weekend, but most everyone we spoke to reported a nice shot in the arm. Yes, the weather since that snow event has helped, but that doesn’t force you to participate. We are appreciative.
*For those of us who love to enjoy Savannah’s best restaurants, there’s a special event coming up in March that you should know about. I just spoke to Debi Fowler, Executive Director of the Forsyth Farmers Market and this is going to be great. It’s called Chefs and Farmers and will feature over a dozen of Savannah’s top culinary talent. It will be Thursday, March 6th at Ships of the Sea. Find a link to ticket here. Prices are inclusive of all food AND drink.
Solid bread and sandwiches at Sixby on 41st Street. They serve wine and beer too with a beautiful little courtyard looking out onto quite possibly Savannah’s hottest block.
*Speaking of wine, Christina at 208 Wine Bar is having a “Souper” kinda party Saturday at her place. Details below. If you’ve got nothing going on Saturday, stop by.

*Eagles by 5
*Tybee Island Restaurant Week is running February 17th through February 28th. A handful of restaurants are participating as of now. There will likely be more. Find more information here.
*Our friends at Tubby’s Tank House in Thunderbolt are celebrating 30 years on Saturday the 15th. Details below.

*Have you ever tried Grafitto at Plant Riverside? They opened a few years back as Graffito Pizza. Since, they’ve dropped the pizza and put a lot of focus into pastas and salads as well. It’s low key some of Savannah’s best Italian eats. Or does the ziti at the top of this article not look amazing? Their meatballs have been rock stars for years already.
*Speaking of pizza, some of you may not know we have a weekly television show dedicated to food in the region. This weekend, among other things, we are looking at some of the best pizzas South of the Savannah River. 12:30p Sundays on WJCL. Or set your recording device.
*If you missed it, the incredibly popular Starland Cafe closed early January. Yes, for good. Owner Michael Pritchard promised us something else in that space. For now it is Sunny and Share at Starland. A common space for any and all to visit for some peace and quiet.
*Once Restaurant Week is over…as in beginning February 10th…Your next dinner out should be Eden Supper Club. 2605 Whitaker Street in Savannah near Victory Drive. They’ve been in that spot a few months. Fantastic experience.
*Auspicious Baking Company is on final approach in their new space on Whitemarsh Island. More soon.
*There’s been a flurry of new restaurants: Sandfly’s Southern Soul, Rome’s (on Montgomery Street), The West Broad Station at 514 MLK, Junior Blvd. Birria Spot on Montgomery and Gaston on the ground floor of The Bowery Apartments. Joe and Vera are close to opening on Broughton Street and Dave’s Hot Chicken on Victory Drive near the Truman is on the way as well.
*Our friends at Sister’s are offering you a free slice of their Red Velvet Cake with the purchase of a regular priced meal. February 9th only. I tell you this because their red velvet is outstanding.
*Finally, Eat It and Like It celebrated 14 years serving the food scenes on both sides of the Savannah River this week. We wouldn’t be here without you. Thanks for the support. MUCH more to come in 2025.
