Random Ruminations – April 7th

Running off at the keyboard while trying to decide what season we can enjoy outside today. We’ve experienced three this week already. Winter, Summer, Spring. Who’s next?

*Fans of El Coyote at One West Victory Drive will be excited to know that the Ramen Bar concept the guys have planned for the coffee shop area is a few weeks away. It will be called Akedo Ramen Bar, which means “Arcade” in Japanese. Their plan calls to add a few video games as well.  We’ll keep you posted.

*Missed on our exclusive that John Travolta was spotted in Savannah? You might be the only one. Click here for that story.

*Spring is Brunch season around here, perfect time to sit outside and enjoy on the weekends. Cuoco Pazzo at 606 Abercorn has added a new brunch. Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Live music beginning at noon on Sundays. I’ve had the opportunity to try a few dishes, they are great. They’ve also spruced up their dinner menu as well and added a few dishes. New chef as well, up to Savannah from Miami.  (pictured above: Creme Brulee Stuffed French Toast at Cuoco Pazzo).

*No plans tomorrow? Join us at the Gourmet Tour of Homes at Hampton Lake in Bluffton. Several area chefs are going to be set up in model homes offering cooking demos and wine pairings while you enjoy a beautiful evening in a beautiful setting. Tickets only $75 per person. Chefs include some of Bluffton’s best like Brandon Carter of Farm Bluffton. Click here for more information.

*You’ll be hearing more about this in the coming weeks, but I am absolutely thrilled to have been asked to MC festivities at Fish to Fork Weekend at the Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort. It is very simply one of the top 2-3 food weekends I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying. If you love seafood and beautiful settings, this is one you should absolutely consider. Again, more coming soon.

*Enjoyed an unbelievable pizza at Sugo Rossa Italian Kitchen in Savannah this week. If you haven’t been in, you need to. 12 Oaks Shopping Center near Publix.

*A bit out of character for the kind of stuff we usually report here, but hey, who doesn’t like Outback Bloomin Onions? Outback on Savannah’s Southside is giving away free Bloomies Monday from 2pm-3:30pm to celebrate the remodeled location. Savannah’s only Outback.

*Speaking of Farms, the Forsyth Farmers Market Farm Day picnic is coming up on Sunday, April 29th. A great afternoon of food and fun on Savannah’s East Side. This year’s food line up looks great. It includes B’s Cracklin BBQ, Cha Bella, Fox and Fig, Bull Street Taco and many more. Tickets include food and a beer from Service Brewing. Live music and fun for the kids as well. Click here for more information on that event.

*There’s a restaurant labor shortage across the country. It’s hitting our area hard as well. How bad is it? Tune in tomorrow, 7:30am on WSAV-TV for Eat It and Like It with Jesse Blanco.

*On Hilton Head Island, it’s RBC Heritage Week. It starts on Monday. Remember to allow yourself plenty of time to get around the island.

*Drivin’ and Cryin fans will be excited to know you can catch Kevin and the guys at Poseidon on Hilton Head Island, Thursday night April 12th 9pm. Click here for more.

*More brunching: Ombra Cucina Rustica is offering a Sunday Brunch on the 15th ahead of the final round of the golf tournament. Menu looks fantastic and it is only $35 per person. Click here for information and reservations.

*A little further down the line, Sunday May 6th to be exact, we are hosting our Eat It and Like It Foodie Awards. Every year we award the regions best in food and drink. No voting, no popularity contests, just great food. You are invited to join all winners at a great party, poolside at the DeSoto Savannah. Tickets are $40 and include a huge spread of food. We just got the menu this week and it looks fantastic. Click here for more information and tickets.

*Avocado Bleu is a new plant-based concept coming to Bluffton. Finishing touches going on. Should be a few weeks out. Click here for more.

See you on TV,

Jesse
