Hilton Head Island Shrimp Festival is Saturday

Like most great events, this one started with an idea. “It was pretty simple. We don’t really do anything on the island that is at the end of the season.” According to Matt Roher, Director of Food and Beverage at Sea Pines Resort.

So it was decided, almost on the spot to try to put together an event. An event fitting of being hosted at one of the most prestigious locations on Hilton Head Island, Harbour Town. Keep in mind this was early August. Not much more than 5 weeks ago.

“We are very pleased with how quickly everything came together.” says Chip Duncan, Director of Operations at Sea Pines. “The easiest thing to put together was a Shrimp Festival.” he says.  The result, Hilton Head Island’s 1st Annual Shrimp Festival at Harbour Town. That event is this Saturday from 2pm until 6pm.

Fifteen chefs are on board including names familiar on the island to seafood lovers “Craig Reeves, Clayton Rollison, Lee Lucier, and Sean Ross from Reileys.” Duncan says.  Island favorite Poseidon will be represented from the SERG Group as well.

The premise is pretty simple. $20 gets you in and all of the shrimp you care to enjoy. Yes, all you can eat. There will be a tremendous variety of dishes as well as a few entries in a Shrimp and Grits competition.

Craft beers, and wine is available for additional purchase, but all of your eats are covered. $2 from every ticket is going to the Boys and Girls Club of Hilton Head Island. A pretty good deal for everyone.

Guests are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance by clicking here. Your receipt will serve as your parking pass on to Sea Pines Plantation. There will be an extremely limited number of spaces available for parking near Harbourtown. Guests are instead asked to park at Lot 2 and take a shuttle bus down to the marina.

Shuttles will run 1:30pm until 7:30pm.

“We are expecting a great turnout.” Duncan says. “There won’t be massive crowds. Just enough to make it comfortable for everyone. Exactly what we were looking for in our first year for this event.”
