Four Great Island Salads

By Brooke Peck with Hi From HHI

As the temps are starting to warm up, my love of salads gets even stronger.  A fresh salad full of crisp vegetables, chilled dressing, and perfectly cooked protein help cool things off during a hot day.  Today, I am sharing four of my favorite salads at Hilton Head to help you chill out this summer!

Jane Bistro- Crispy Thai Shrimp Salad

If you’re a salad lover, you have got to eat lunch at Jane Bistro in Shelter Cove.  Their lunch menu is packed with seven beautiful salads that are big enough to share if you’re feeling extra generous.  My favorite is the Crispy Thai Shrimp Salad.  It’s the perfect balance of health with crunchy greens, cucumber, carrots, green onions, oranges and peanuts blended with the richness of crispy fried shrimp that are tossed in a sweet thai glaze.  It’s all topped off with chow mein noodles, crispy wontons and freshly made cilantro lime vinaigrette.  I opt to get my dressing on the side so I can control the perfect amount of coating!  You can order your shrimp grilled if you’d prefer them less crunchy and of course edit the toppings if you have special dietary needs.  Overall, I’d say this unique salad is fresh, crispy and very refreshing!

Sprout Momma- Carolina Cobb Salad

Most people think of fresh bread or sandwiches when they think of Sprout Momma on Arrow Road.  But… you’re really missing out if you overlook the salad section on their menu!  The Carolina Cobb salad is my favorite because of three reasons: a giant, well seared crab cake, 6 minute hardboiled eggs and perfectly ripened avocado.  All of that plus cheese and bacon make this salad full of protein.  Fresh cucumber, pickled red onions and tangy buttermilk ranch round out this delicious salad that will probably have you asking for a to-go box!

Hudson’s Seafood House on the Docks- Farmer’s Salad

The first time I ate at Hudson’s Seafood House, I noticed they had a salad with arugula and beets on their Daily Specials Menu and I had to try it because I have not met a beet that I didn’t like.  I was blown away by this unique and elevated dish!  It’s a perfectly crafted stack of chilled golden and red beets topped with peppery arugula, goat cheese with pistachios sprinkled on top.  They pour a thick citrus vinaigrette dressing over the round stack to bring the whole dish together.  It’s delicious on its own but since you are at a local seafood powerhouse, why not add some locally caught shrimp or fish to go with it?  (Spoiler alert: the Farmer’s Salad is on the “Daily Specials Menu” every day!)

Delisheeyo- Massaged Kale Salad

One of my good friends has a gluten intolerance and turned me on to the amazingness that is Delisheeyo.  The restaurant is fully vegetarian and has options for vegans and those avoiding gluten as well.  Every time I eat there, I feel like I am adding a few weeks to the length of my life.  They grow several vegetable varieties (including kale) to serve to hungry customers.  It’s not farm to table, it’s more like porch to table.  My favorite salad here is the massaged kale salad which is perfectly caressed into being ready to consume alongside blueberries, blue cheese, figs and almond slivers.  It’s all topped off with fig vinaigrette and sits on a circle of balsamic glaze.  The dessert on the salad is a super crispy garlic crostini that will make you crave another one.  Overall, you will feel like the epitome of good health after visiting Delisheeyo!
