Fork and Dagger Latin Diner to add Dinner Service

You are generally taught in journalism school to write new stories as if the person reading knows nothing about the subject matter. Assumption not only leads to confusion, but also to a tired old joke about the word assume.

While I am perfectly fine with that, I need to let you know before you read another word, that if you have lived in Savannah for more than a year and spend any amount of time north of Victory Drive and you DON’T know about Fork and Dagger, well then we just cannot be friends.

Because I care, though, I will take the time to introduce you to Fork and Dagger while I am letting you know that their second location on the corner of Habersham and Anderson in the Victorian District is about to begin weekend dinner service.

Fork and Dagger is a New York-style cafe on Abercorn Street downtown.  609 Abercorn to be exact. Breakfast and lunch only. Great sandwiches, bagels, desserts and more.  They just recently won an Eat It and Like It Foodie Award for best spot to get a meal for under $10. Sans drink of course.

Six months ago, Fork and Dagger happened into a second location. Bobbie’s Diner has been sitting on the corner for many many years. A lot of those, it sat empty. A chance meeting led to Fork and Dagger taking over and developing a “Latin Diner” concept.  To this point, it has largely served as breakfast and lunch only as well.

Until now.

On Friday, May 17th Fork and Dagger Latin Diner will begin offering dinner service. Weekend’s only. The menu is pretty simple and straight forward. With influences from owner Brian Torres’ Puerto Rican background and his partner Sky Hoyt’s Southern influences.  The setting? A classic diner car. Straight out of the 1950’s.

Burgers, Cuban Sandwich, Grilled Cheese and more to get started on. Entrees include Chicken and Yellow Rice, Puerto Rican Beef Stew or Pork over Grits, Burritos, Empanadas and more.

The most expensive item on the new dinner menu? $11.00.

There are plans for a beer and wine license down the road, but for now, diners are welcomed to bring a bottle of their favorite beverage to enjoy.  Just keep in mind you will need to open it and serve it yourself. The Diner isn’t licensed to help in that regard.

Although Brian says he will be glad to help you drink it.

You can find Fork and Dagger Latin Diner at 1402 Habersham Strreet in the Victorian District.
