We all have our favorites. Generally, on this day it is mom’s favorite and there is no point drifting away from tradition. However, time and again we find ourselves looking to shake things up a little bit on a special occasion. So here is a list of some different -non traditional-spots that will getting their grooves on for Mother’s Day.
Chive Sea Bar, brought to you by the same fine folks that own Flying Monk Noodle Bar, Little Duck Diner, The Vault and more flies under the radar as some of the best seafood in the city. It’s a gorgeous atmosphere, the food is exceptionally good. They don’t generally open for lunch on Sundays but they are for the moms this year. Sunday they will be open from 11a-3pm and regular dinner service Sunday from 5pm=9pm. Reservations are highly recommended. Those in the know, know all about the seafood at Chive.
Once upon a time The DeSoto Room was the hottest spot in Brunch for a long time in Savannah. It is where everyone went after church on Sundays. And we mean everyone. It’s a new day in that same space. We tell you about the 1540 Room as often as we can because it is the best kept secret in Savannah. Their Sunday brunch is up there with any in Savannah. Don’t let the fact that it is in a hotel deter you. This is top shelf eating in Savannah. Reservations required.
Little Italy, Wilmington Island
Little Italy Italian Restaurant is quite possibly one of the most popular on the islands. Certainly on Wilmington Island. The crowds waiting for a table outside at dinner time will tell you that. On Mother’s Day they are introducing their Sunday Brunch service. Menu features some Italian favorites, plus a dish we have enjoyed at their sister restaurant Cuoco Pazzo downtown. It’s a Croque Monsieur “Pizza.” Essentially a flatbread topped with ham, gruyere cheese, and an egg. Truthfully, I could eat that thing every day. A couple of months ago we featured Chef Nick Mueller on our TV show, “Eat It and Like It with Jesse Blanco” (Sunday mornings, 7:30am on WSAV-TV). In that episode we told you about Nick’s ‘pop up dinners’ that sell out just as quickly as they can announce them. Well, they are offering 3 seatings for Mother’s Day. Noon, 2pm and 4pm. And if I you, I’d call to try to get in right now. $35 for a Mother’s Day buffet. It will include Fried Chicken this year. It is located in Guyton, a 20 or so minute drive from downtown Savannah. (912) 728-8150.
Can’t make it out to Guyton? No problem. Back in Savannah, it’s the winner of the 2018 Eat It and Like It Foodie Award for best Italian, Sugo Rossa is already a Savannah favorite. Now you can take mom there for Mother’s Day. They’ll be serving up their Italian classics on Sunday beginning at 12:30pm (no mimosas before then, you know). $3 Mimosas all day plus a few other surprises for mom.
