Eat It and Like It – Sandwiches

Thanks so much for joining us this morning on Eat It and Like It and our discussion of great sandwiches. As with anything else, there are a lot of them out there. Narrowing down all of the great ones and squeezing into 21-22 minutes is as difficult as you might imagine. So many sandwiches, so little time!

I have favorites. I have some that I love that didn’t make it into this episode. As we try to do every Sunday, we like to push the envelope a little bit. Get you to try something different. So here they are in the order in which they appeared. Beginning with a quick mention that if you haven’t had the Triple Decker Club Sandwich at Crystal Beer Parlor in Savannah, then you have no idea what you are missing.

J Thomas Kitchen –  Whitemarsh Island – Joshua Thomas is a Savannah boy who started as a caterer (which he still is) but now he has an ‘upscale casual’ cafe on Whitemarsh Island. Lunch and Dinner services. Great baked goods but also fabulous sandwiches. The tuna salad and chicken salads sell out about as fast as they can make them nearly every day. All of them served on fresh baked bread. Everything they do is great. Sandwiches are just part ot it.

Butcher and Bee – Charleston –  My favorite lunch spot in America. Period. How does this occur? The story in a nutshell goes like this. First time I visited, I had  a grilled shrimp BLT. At that point quite possibly the best sandwich I had ever had. The next time, I headed there for the BLT, they didn’t have it. I settled for a Korean Beef sandwich.  Made me forget about the BLT. Since then, everything I have ever eaten at Butcher and Bee has been

perfect. I mean perfect. And I don’t say that often.

Rocky’s of Savannah New York Italian Deli and Catering – Bill Vissicchio opened this spot in Sandfly less than a year ago. All it has become is a hang out for all of the transplants and retirees in the area who are craving a Taste of the Apple. The Vito Spatafore is favorite of mine. Though the Canal Street might be a close 2nd.
