Eat It and Like It – Pub Grub

Truth be told, we had planned on a new episode of Eat It and Like It, until I came across this one. Considering it is over 4 years old, it still held up. It is St. Patrick’s Day week in Savannah, so I thought we’d go “Pubbing.” Our show has evolved quite a bit over the years. That was what it looked like once upon a time.

A lot of great pubs in Savannah. Many of them the same, but some offering something different. Lots of variety to choose from. So here they are, in the order they aired.

Circa 1875 Gastropub

I have no problem saying Circa is one of my favorite spots in Savannah. Executive Chef David Landrigan is without question one of the best in the city. French brasserie on one said and a great bar on the other. Yes, you can eat on both sides. Consistency and authenticity are both excellent. One of the best burgers in Savannah as well.

Six Pence Pub

Six Pence is legendary in Savannah. I think it was there when James Oglethorpe rolled up on Savannah’s shores. One of those spots where everyone knows your name and they are always glad you came. The selection of beers is wonderful (it is the only place in Savannah where I usually drink Harp) and the food is good as well. I’ve heard about people coming straight there off of an airplane just to have their prime rib or pot roast. Yes, it is very good.

Crystal Beer Parlor

Crystal Beer Parlor is another legendary spot in Savannah. The history is well documented. The 45 minute waits for a table on the weekends are equally as well documented. The food here is excellent and the locals all know that. Throw in a large batch of tourists looking for Savannah authenticity and you get one of the best spots in town for casual food. The turkey triple decker club sandwich on rye with cheddar is my go-to here, but it is all good.

Molly MacPherson’s

Molly has a few locations around town. One downtown Savannah, one in Richmond Hill and another in Pooler. The crowds flock here on St. Patrick’s Day. Bagpipers all hanging out outside. The whiskey selection is quite large and the food is always good. They don’t cut corners with the food here. It is good stuff. That chicken pot pie looked pretty good, didn’t it?

See you on TV,

Jesse
