We were beginning to wonder.
Chaz Ortiz, owner/operator of one of the region’s most popular food trucks has announced their plans for a revamp of their ‘787 by Chazito’ Puerto Rican restaurant in Savannah’s Starland District at the corner of Bull Street and 39th. Their re-opening date is set for July 23rd.
“It’s been about 4 months since we decided to close due to the pandemic” read part of a statement posted to social media on Sunday. “Things are different so we decided to do something different.” he said.
According to Chaz, the makeover to 787 will include making the space more approachable and will include a ‘bodega’ and grab and go food items. “For individuals or families.”
The biggest and probably most welcome news to his throng of loyal followers? The new menu will be more approachable than what they had and will feature ‘all of your favorites.’
The 787 concept opened last year in Savannah’s Starland District as an extension to the already very popular “Chazito” brand of food trucks. The only problem for many people was the foods that they came to love from his trucks weren’t available at his Savannah ‘brick and mortar.’
“I just wanted a burrito” I was told one time by a very loyal Chazito patron. “I guess I will either have to go to Pooler or chase the food truck around.” This person wasn’t alone.
Kudos to Chaz and his team for recognizing this.
Now, clearly tossed into the mix is the battle for the dining dollar during a pandemic. Take-out food is performing well in most cases. This pivot gives Chaz a shot at success for as long at this nightmare lasts.
Good news for the neighborhood and your options for a quick dinner and great news for Chaz.
Like we said, re-open date set for July 23rd.
