The news came as a surprise to pretty much anyone who had eaten there in the past year and change. Mama G’s Pizza and Bistro, home of what was widely regarded as Bluffton’s best pizza shop closed suddenly this week. Most of the community found out about the same time, via an email notification from Mama G’s that they were closed. Permanently.
We reached out to owner Glen Grace on Wednesday hoping to get a few answers. We got fewer than we thought we’d get.
“You know what we built here, Jesse.” he said. “We are thankful to all of the people and customers who helped us get to this point.”
“On the advice of my attorney, I really can’t say any more. All questions should be referred to him.”
A Chapter 7 Bankruptcy filing was submitted by Charleston-based Attorney Kevin Campbell on November 13th.
Business wasn’t that bad, was it?
“No, it wasn’t. But due to some economic difficulties, we had to do this.” Mr. Grace added.
Mama G’s Pizza Bistro and Bar was an instant hit with most of the Bluffton community. They offered pizzas and pastas made with the best ingredients they could get shipped into the area regularly. That drove costs up, which ultimately kept Mama G’s from being more popular than it was, but it was still the standard for pizza in Bluffton.
Mr. Grace hinted at the fact that the business ‘was available’ to anyone interest in wading through the Bankruptcy process at this point, but Mama G’s would remain closed otherwise.
Will we see you again?
“Absolutely!”

It was never the standard for pizza in Bluffton or the surrounding areas. It was overpriced and the food was underwhelming at best.
I ABSOLUTELY AGREE — BOTH OF YOUR POINTS ARE 100% TRUE!
MamaG’s owes millions to their creditors, many of whom are local contractors, etc. Bad business all the way around.
Glenn , Sorry to hear about the closing , we enjoyed your restaurant and your company !
I wish you well !!l

Miss that place. Beautiful circus, friendly staff, great owner and I’d bring people from Chicago to mana G’s. Miss you lots!!!
I worked there, I’ll tell you why they’re filing bankruptcy, it’s because they had no idea what they were doing. They made their 19 year old daughter front of house manager and the only thing she could manage to do was sit on her phone. Go look for some of their former employees, if you want names I’ll give them to you and ask them about their experience at Mama g’s dealing with Glenn Grace. When people tried to explain to Glenn that there is such thing as an offseason, he was extremely confident that they wouldn’t be affected by that.
