If there is one thing we have learned along the way in our travels for Eat It and Like It is that not all bakeries are created equally. How can you compare a classic french patisserie, for example, with another bakery that does primarliy exceptional breads. I personally don’t think it is a fair comparison.
In the case of Hilton Head Social Bakery, they do it all. So well, that well, it’s-by a long long shot- the best bakery on the island. In the region for that matter.
Phillipe Feret came to Hilton Head Island from New York City. His plan was to open a restaurant here. He looked around, saw some spots he liked, but never really got close. Until he was shown a space in the Shelter Cove Marina. He thought it would be perfect for a bakery. It might just be the best bakery the island has ever seen.
Phillipe is a renowned chef from New York. Among his many credits? Windows on the World at the World Trade Center. For years he owned a catering company. His clients including Rupert Murdoch and Conde Naste. Yes, this is serious business.
That has translated to the most delectable pastries and breads in the Low Country. Which he changes regularly just to keep it interesting. All of it handmade by either Phillip or one of his 2 assistants in the back.
