For over a decade, Savannah’s favorite sandwich shop has had people lining up along York Street downtown just to get their hands on a Conquistador or something very similar. Well now comes word that Zunzi is taking their show on the road with a location set to open in Atlanta.
Co-owner Christopher Smith has confirmed to us that they will occupy a 2,250 square foot space in Atlanta’s Howell Mill Road area. The plan is to open later in 2017. There are plans for future expansion in Atlanta in the Battery Park Complex adjacent to Suntrust Park, the Atlanta Braves new baseball stadium in Cobb County and/or midtown Atlanta and Decatur.
“Besides the great food, I always thought Zunzi’s had all the elements to be something big.” Smith told us. He says he first expressed interest becoming a part of Zunzi’s in 2008-2009. It wasn’t until 2012 that Zunzi’s founders, Johnny and Gabriela Debeer, finally thought it was time to sell their brand.
Zunzi’s opened in 2005 and immediately shot to stardom in Savannah behind quality food with South African influences and several appearances on national television.
