The Return of Starland Cafe: To Broughton Street
Now that we’ve gotten your attention you need to know up front that the name of the restaurant that we will be discussing in this time we are sharing together is not Starland Cafe. It is, however, a brand new sandwich shoppe and restaurant in Savannah that is creating the same dishes that Starland Cafe served for many many years before they closed in early 2025.
The name of this new restaurant is Pritchard and Co. If you liked the food at Starland, then you will undoubtedly get to know this incarnation very well, too.
You see, you can count Jay Trikha among the people who were devastated to hear that such a beloved-and by most measures successful-cafe in Savannah was closing. He tells me he was a regular there and also enjoyed the food as much as anyone else did in Savannah. He also knew that the owner, Michael Pritchard, was leaning toward closing.
“He was tired.” Jay says.
Yes, he was. Michael himself knew as much.
Where this all came together is the fact that Jay and his business partners all operated restaurants before this. Jay most recently took over the Savannah Tap House on Broughton Street, his business partner Dan Patel owns a Mediterranean pita shop in Pooler.
While they approached Michael about partnering with him to continue the brand, they also knew that the Starland Cafe as it was would be way to small to make it all work. If they could find a spot to put it all together, they thought they’d be able to make a run at it. Shortly thereafter, the space at 207 West Broughton Street (formerly occupied by Dotties) came availalble. The timing was perfect.

Pritchard and Company is the new partnership. The Pritchard part, obviously, is not only an homage to everything Michael created with the Starland Cafe brand, but he is still very much involved. In fact, the day I was there for lunch, Michael was out in search of art work to put up on the restaurant’s walls. He’s been part of the process nearly every step of the way. Making sure everyone knows how to execute his recipes and helping Jay and his partners to put together a place that Savannah will enjoy.
As it stands now, 40 percent of that menu has carried over from Starland Cafe. The Kitchen Sink Salad, the Thai Basil Soup and others are there day one. There are other items on the menu I saw, but they are going to be rolled out slowly as they get their feet under during what they expect could be a busy holiday season.
The other 60% of the menu is put together by Executive Chef Derrick Fullmer, a Savannah veteran chef. That menu will evolve and grow as they get more comfortable with their surroundings and their clientele. The plan is to roll out dinner service perhaps sometime late February early March. By then, they expect to have a liquor license and bar featuring a creative cocktail program.

More on that-and their dinner service-another time. Today is about the return of the Kitchen Sink.
I had one for lunch on Friday. It was the same as it ever was, no doubt. I’ve had no trouble sharing over the years that the Kitchen Sink salad-add chicken-was my favorite salad in the city.
I also enjoyed a porchetta sandwich, with salsa verde and arugula. Fantastic. And, of course, the Thai Basil Soup. Welcome back, old friends. More visuals below
There’s also an additional welcome to some new ones. Pritchard and Co. is the only locally owned sandwich shoppe on Broughton Street. Something like this was desperately needed. Yes, there is coffee service now, but I’m guessing that will expand a little bit when they start opening at 8am in a few weeks. Breakfast, lunch and like we said-eventually-dinner. That’s the plan for this place at 207 West Broughton.
For now, Starland lovers will rejoice in the return of their favorites. Some of them might even fight the parking headaches to get their fix. Hey, they did it on 41st Street. I’m certain they will do it again.
Pritchard and Co. is open 11am-3pm for the next two weeks. They will be closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
