Random Ruminations – May 2025

Running off at the keyboard trying to stay indoors as much as possible until October…if only.

*The big story the last couple of weeks has been the start of a couple of new Farmer’s Markets in Savannah. The bigger of the two is in the Baldwin Park neighborhood off of 41st Street in Savannah. It’s called the Midtown Farmers Market and features a lot of the same names you will find on Saturday mornings at Forsyth Park. It’s a collaborative effort between Sixby, Lone Wolf Lounge and Over Yonder. It’s every Wednesday 3pm-7pm.

*The other is called Savannah Sunset Market and will be held on Hutchinson Island the 1st, 3rd and 5th THURSDAYS of the month. The location is near a group of condos on the Eastern side of the Westin Savannah Harbor. Yes, across the bridge. They’ll feature live music, cool breezes and a sunset view of the Savannah River. Find more about them here.

Sorry Charlie’s on Congress Street is hosting a Sushi Pop-up featuring talent in town from Jacksonville Beach’s O-KU Restaurant. It is Thursday May 29th….There is no structured seating. Guests are welcome to come and go as they please. The event will run from 5pm until 11pm. See more information here.

Meanwhile, on the heels of a very successful Eat It and Like It Supper Club event, we are hosting 2 more dinners this Summer that are open to the public. The first is on Sunday, July 20th. The next will be on Sunday August 24th. See more information about those two events here.

Or you can keep an eye on all food-centric events going on in the area by checking in on our event calendar. Summers typically slow down around here, but there is always something going on. Click the graphic below for all the details.

The Heritage Fire Tour returns to Savannah on Sunday June 29th at the Pit and Paddock area near the Westin Savannah Harbor. See more information here.

Coming Soon: FishBar Savannah is a new seafood ‘open flame’ concept that is coming to the Starland District in the space formerly occupied by Squirrel’s Pizza on Bull Street. Look for them to open early-mid July.

Also in Starland, Kyle Jacovino gave us an update on the build out of his new Italian restaurant coming to Starland. If you missed it, it’s called Lucia and according to Kyle, it’s a few months out. Below….

Kyle Jacovino’s Lucia Pasta Bar in progress in the Starland District

You thought we’d go an entire update on the food scene without some info on The Darling Oyster Bar, didn’t you? I think you know better than that. I spoke to some of the people involved in the last few weeks and all indications are that they should be looking at this Summer. Do I have more than that? Nope. Except they have begun to post pictures of the interior of the restaurant the last few weeks. One of them is below. Beyond that? I got nothing. We’ll see what happens.

We are also a couple of months out from Savannah’s newest Brunch spot. It’s called Sunday Sunday and it’s coming to the intersection of Congress and Whitaker Streets. Read more here.

Savannah’s Darling Oyster Bar: Coming Soon

On Savannah’s Southside: Jim and Nick’s BBQ is hot and heavy under construction in the parking lot adjacent to Oglethorpe Mall, while the very popular Sushi Hani is mid-build out at Abercorn near Largo Drive in the former B&D Burgers building out in front of Lowe’s Home Improvement Store. Jim and Nick’s Ribbon cutting is scheduled for June 18th.

Some good eats to share on the Southside: Klom Klom Thai is brought to you by the same family behind Downtown’s PJ’s Thai and it is excellent. On Mondays, it might just be the best lunch you will find open South of Stephenson.

Planning to get over to Hilton Head Island this Summer: We’ve got a list of 6 awesome breakfasts you should bookmark. See that list here.

No, we did not completely ignore the Lowcountry, you guys are getting your own list of ruminations later this week.
