Call it double whammy Saturday across America. The ever popular “Cinco de Mayo” falls on the same day as the Kentucky Derby. Will there be any bourbon or tequila left by the time we wake up on Sunday?
Probably.
Of course, we love our drinking holidays now don’t we. Nothing wrong with any of them when enjoyed in moderation. After all, on March 17th we all claim to be Irish until the bars close. So why can’t we enjoy a little Fiesta Mexicana on May 5th. Nothing wrong with it at all, as long as we remember that May 5th is NOT Mexican Independence Day. That happens on September 16th. I can make light because in large part the day is an excuse for a good time. This area will have no shortage of them. We all generally have our favorite spots where we will enjoy Cinco de Mayo or The Kentucky Derby. This year you can do both at the same time. Here are a few spots to do just that.
Tequila’s Town Mexican Restaurant
The 2018 Eat It and Like It winner for Best Mexican is having their biggest Cinco de Mayo celebration yet. There will be various tequila specials and give aways at both their downtown and Sandfly locations. Sandfly will also have a DJ. They’ll get going about 4pm and party until 11pm.
Edgar’s Proof and Provision -DeSoto Hotel
If you haven’t tried the new menu at Edgar’s, this is your perfect opportunity to do so. The short rib nachos with melted pimento cheese are amazing. As is the 3 cheese brisket sandwich. Those are just two of them. Beyond
that, they will offer $2 Off Margaritas All Day, $2 Off Mint Juleps until after the Derby, $5 Corona, Modelo and Pacifico All Day $3 Draft Miller Lite. Sounds like a party.
Rock out with your Guac Out? Alrighty then. They are bringing it hard at Bull Street Taco in the Victorian District. They’ll have music from 2pm until 5pm and a special Mexican Lager from our friends at Two Tides Brewing Company. A beer you will only find that day at Bull Street Taco.
