As much as we enjoy a delicious meal or beautifully prepared cocktail, it’s sometimes easy to forget that working in the food service industry isn’t always fun or easy.
Weird hours and work conditions can easily take a toll on someone’s mental and physical health. That’s something that Charlotte chef, Donnie Simmons discovered.
After being in the industry for most of his life, being named Best Chef in Charlotte by Creative Loafing twice, and appearing on Food Network; Donnie made the switch to help people in recovery.
Donnie has been spending this year preparing food at an addiction recovery nonprofit. He hopes his experience getting clean can help inspire those just beginning on their journey.
