Call it a sign of the times. Sorry, that pun was too easy to pass up.
It seemed like as good a time as any to offer an update on the new Jalapenos Mexican Restaurant that is going in on Broughton Street in Downtown Savannah. Wednesday morning, their signage went up. To this point, there had been no indication that the popular Mexican restaurant chain was nearing an opening at 7 East Broughton Street. I’d like to thing we have evolved as a city enough that signs going up don’t make front page news, but if Trader Joe’s announced that they were coming to Savannah, there’d be a parade down Victory Drive. So, a little perspective is in order.
Brown paper still fills the windows in the store front on Broughton near Bull Street, but I am assured an opening is likely less than a month away. “Everything inside is pretty much done.” Owner Arnold Castellanos tells me. “It’s just a matter of getting a few more things in place and making sure our licensing is in order.”
Mr. Castellanos said he hopes to be open by Labor Day weekend but at this point can’t make any guarantees on the timing of inspections and standard city procedures.
We will certainly keep you posted.
See you on TV,
Jesse
