The Chicken Sandwich

Thanks for joining us for our first show of a new season of Eat It and Like It. We’ve got a lot in store between now and Memorial Day weekend, 2017.  More on that another time.

Chicken Sandwiches ruled the day this week. Here are the spots we visited in the order they appeared:

Richard’s Southern Fried -Atlanta

Todd Richards is the owner/operator here looking to build a fried chicken empire. Tall mountain to climb in the south, but that sandwich you saw on our show is a very good start. As hot as you’d like it to be, Richard’s Southern Fried is as popular as any chicken sandwich in Atlanta and that is saying something. They aren’t cheap ($11 with a side) but you get what you pay for. In this case, something unbelievably good.

Cahill’s Market – Bluffton, South Carolina

Loved this family’s story. Family owned farm for 98 years. About 10 years ago they started cooking with their own produce. Now they have quite possibly one of the most popular breakfast and brunch spots in the Low Country. The day we were there, we ran into two area chefs looking to enjoy a Sunday morning ‘get out of the kitchen’ meal. That’s high praise. A good ol’ Southern Country Kitchen is what Cahill’s is all about. Their fried chicken sandwich with some spicy ranch is fantastic.

Certified Burgers and Beverages – St. Simons Island

David Carrier just opened his spot on St Simons Island mid 2016. It’s already a hit. A burger spot by trade (they are wonderful by the way) he also has great seafood dishes, salads and a wonderful grilled chicken sandwich. Topped with brie and pickles and of course, lettucs and tomato. Pay him a visit next time you are down that way, or better yet, take a lazy Saturday and visit the Golden Isles. Beautiful part of the state.

Sandfly BBQ – Downtown Savannah

Sandfly BBQ is no stranger to Savannah’s BBQ scene. They’ve been around for years. What a lot of people don’t know about is the chicken sandwich they offer ONLY at their downtown Savannah location. It is named for owner Keith Lature’s daughter Wallace. She wanted a sandwich named after her because he brother had a burger named after him. Well, that sibling rivalry nudged Keith into having the best fried chicken sandwich in Savannah. The Wally is a winner. Again, you can find it ONLY at their downtown Savannah location.

See you on TV,
Jesse
