Random Ruminations – June 3rd

Running off at the keyboard and gearing up for a busy summer.

Things usually slow down over the summer. While I’m not saying they aren’t, there is still a whole lot going on. Like what? Thought you’d never ask.

**Headed to the Savannah Food Truck Festival tomorrow? Some good food out there. If you are lucky, Big Bon Pizza will be set up.

**If you missed it a while back, The DeSoto Hotel is re-branding. As of August 1st it will lose it’s “Hilton” name and simply be called “The DeSoto” it has been remodeled and will have two new restaurants. Proof and Provisions is the first. That is set to open later this month.

**Meanwhile, down the street. New chefs at Andaz Savannah and Hotel Indigo. I’ve seen the new menu at Andaz and it looks fabulous. More on both of them later.

**Bull Street Taco is coming to Savannah’s “Bull Street Corridor” south of Forsyth Park. A fantastic addition to that neighborhood. Read my story here.

**Fish HHI is a new spot in Coligny Plaza on Hilton Head Island. Try the Blackened Red Snapper. Fantastic.

**Prohibition Savannah is a beautifully renovated space at 125 MLK Junior Blvd. The current plan is lunch and dinner by June 19th. We’ll keep you posted. More about that space here.

**Rise is a new donut and biscuit shop coming to Broughton Street. Near Bull. The build out continues hot and heavy. I would expect to hear from them about an opening very soon.

**I had a chat with Celebrity Chef Sean Brock on Friday. I will share his update on Husk coming to Savannah on Monday.

**I caught up with chef at the Atlanta Food and Wine Festival. A fantastic event you should consider attending in the future.

*Black Rabbit is a small restaurant (30 seats or so) planned for the corner of Barnard and Henry Streets in Savannah’s Victorian District. Brought to you by the same guys behind Betty Bombers and Butterhead Greens. Expected to open by August.

**Sugo Rossa is open for dinner in the 12 Oaks Shopping Center midtown. A few tiny issues to work out and they plan to open for lunch as well. We’ll keep you posted.

**Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse is having their big gift card sale as we speak. Celebrating 50 years of Ruth’s. You can buy a $82 gift card for $52. A great way to save some money for that special occasion. Find out more here.

**Get out and enjoy a cocktail next week and help raise money for local charities. Negroni Week is June 5-10. Participating restaurants include Atlantic, Bowtie BBQ, 22 Square, The Original Pinkie Masters and many more. Story here.
