Jesse’s Favorites

Thanks for joining us this morning for another episode of Eat It and Like It. It is true. It has become the most asked question I get. What is your favorite (insert name). So I thought I’d share just a few. Here they are, in case you missed them. In the order they aired and a couple of extra spots I like to run into time and again.

The Warehouse – River Street

The Warehouse is a no frills, burger and a beer joint down on the Riverfront. I stress no frills because there isn’t much too it. Music on a jukebox, burgers, fries and wings, a few TVs around and beer.  Good food. Nice beer selection and friendly people.  About all you can ask for, right?

Crystal Beer Parlor – Savannah

No big secret here, CBP (as we have come to know it) is a Savannah institution. Great food, great atmosphere and a great staff. Some of the best service in town. My go-to here is the club sandwich. Made perfectly because the turkey is roasted in-house. Makes all of the difference in the world. I cannot tell you the number of times I have gone to CBP expecting to order something else and wind up back at my turkey sandwich. The funny thing is, I have nibbled on enough of their food over the years to know that menu front to back, back to front. Love the Crystal Beer Parlor. Especially love their club sandwich.

Bluffton BBQ

The BBQ Sandwich at Bluffton BBQ i love for one simple reason, it’s on the light side, if you can believe that. A lot of pulled pork sandwiches are big, heavy and messy. This one is not. The sliced tomato makes a huge difference as well. Nice cool bit to the bite. It’s a must try if you haven’t had it already. Remember, they are closed on Tuesdays.

Starland Cafe = Savannah

Starland is one of the most popular lunch spots in town. Great salads and Paninis. My favorite is the kitchen sink salad. I add a protein (Chicken) or I’d be hungry 15 minutes later. Wonderful salad.

Smith Brothers Butcher Shop – Savannah

The Lunch Counter at Smith Brothers is relatively new, but they do a fantastic job. Chef James Levens is a very talented guy who is making everything, including breads and sides, from scratch. That makes a huge difference. Porschetta, Roast Beef, Pastrami, Smoked Chicken are just some of the sandwiches you can find there. All of them fantastic.

Savannah Coffee Roasters -Savannah

This is my go-to for a quick breakfast if I have to eat out.Savannah Coffee on Liberty Street does a fantastic job with their food. Their breakfast sandwiches are some of the best in town. All breads are homemade. All of it done with tremendous TLC.

Asian Bistro -Hilton Head Island

If you follow us with any regularity, then you know how much I lament not having any decent Chinese food in Savannah. We have some that are OK or will do in a pinch, but great chinese we just don’t have. Asian Bistro on Hilton Head Island is probably the best Chinese between Charleston and Jacksonville. That is saying something. Fantastic food. Nice atmosphere. Same ownership as OKKO, some of the best sushi in the areas as well.

See you on TV,

Jesse
