Savannah’s Jen’s and Friends to close end of March

Another page is turning in Savannah’s recent history. Jens and Friends, a popular martini bar on Bull Street in the heart of downtown Savannah, has announced their last day of operation at that location will be March 24th. Yes, roughly a month away.

The announcement was made via social media on Thursday morning.

“After 18 years 6 months and 3 days….” the statement reads “We have lost our lease and will be closing on March 24, 2024.”

The news isn’t entirely surprising considering the building within which Jens and Friends has existed was recently sold to a hotel developer. Demolition has already begun inside the building whose official address is 7 East Congress Street. It stood to reason it was only a matter of time before tenants within the footprint would be asked to vacate.

The hotel going into the building will feature a rooftop pool and bar. That project could take up to two years to complete, but it has begun.

Similarly but unrelated to this news, a Ritz Carlton Hotel will be going in simultaneously across Johnson Square from this one. They are two of downtown Savannah’s tallest buildings.

As for Jens and Friends, the announcement concludes with “This is not a good bye just a see you later.”

You may not need to find a new source for a Kit Kat Martini just yet. Stay tuned.

  1. Sorry to see them go, but hoping hoping hoping the new hotel will bring back the Purple Tree Lounge! Not on the rooftop… inside, dark and cool.
