Savannah’s Fox and Fig announces closure -Brand new deli to replace it

In what most would consider a huge blow to Savannah’s plant-based and vegetarian community, Fox and Fig’s ownership has announced the restaurant has been sold, ending a six year run at Harris and Habersham Streets on Troup Square.

The announcement was made via social media on Thursday. Their last day is November 30th.

Fox and Fig was an immediate hit when the opened in 2017. At the time, Savannah was in desperate need of more options on the vegan and vegetarian scenes. Many thought that would lead to an influx of similar style concepts coming to a city that desperately needed them. Unfortunately, that never happened.

Fox and Fig was owned by the same ownership group as the very popular Foxy Loxy, Coffee Fox and Henny Penny cafe’s across Savannah. Those locations are not affected by this news. Fox and Fig’s website has essentially shut down with a landing page reflecting the closure.

According to the social post, new owners are taking over and will be spending a month or so building out a new neighborhood deli. It, however, will no longer be a vegan restaurant. The yet to be named deli will open early in 2024.

In the short term, Savannah’s best options for regular vegan and/or vegetarian options remain at The Sentient Bean and Brighter Day, both on Park Avenue near Bull Street.

Also worthy of mention is a brand new Vegan food truck that’s in the works in Savannah. Deathless Food Truck has been hosting pop up events throughout the Fall with plans of rolling out a food truck as soon as possible. You can find more about them here.

  1. How is it that Hungry Vegan is consistently left out of articles that mention our vegan food scene? They’ve been here for a couple of years, the food is amazing, and the owner and everyone who works there is just lovely as can be. This article says that Brighter Day and Sentient Bean are our options (neither vegan, but vegetarian although they have some good vegan options) and the Deathless Food Truck that is in the works — which is exciting but let’s support a small vegan business that’s already here!
