New Sarasota Champagne Bar features $150 minimum tab
If you’ve been around long enough, then you’ve probably witnessed it. A restaurant patron plus one walk into a high end dining establishment, order the least expensive glass of wine on the menu and a soft drink, then split one appetizer. So far there is no crime. That happens when the couple parks for an hour plus taking up valuable revenue generating real estate, for example, surrounding a bar.
While it is more than unlikely that any restaurant will call out such behavior (no matter how tacky it may be), one Sarasota, Florida restaurant is trying to make sure it never happens to them. How? Reservations at this brand new Champagne Bar and Restaurant will come with a $150 minimum tab. Per person.
It’s called Sugar Champagne Bar and it will open on March 28th.
Owner Ronnie Shugar told the Sarasota Herald Tribune “It’s all about the experience. When a guest walks into my establishment, I want them to feel special. Transported out of Sarasota to a charming Parisian Cafe.”
Apparently that transport comes with a stiff price tag.

The “Signature Drink” is The Raw Sugar, inspired by mango and raw coconut. It will set you back $27. The “Cigar Box Old Fashioned ($26) is another featured cocktail.
“We want people to know exactly what to expect.” Shugar told the Herald. “We only take credit cards and the bar itself features no seating. There is no standing or seating at the bar.”
The Herald Tribune did a wonderful job describing the decor, the mood and what the plans are for the scene. Shugar hopes this is the first of many more “Sugar Bars” to open around the country and possibly the world.
Just don’t plan to park it with a Diet Coke for an hour and a half. Won’t Hapn’ Capn’. Not here, anyway.
