October Is New Smyrna Beach’s Month to Eat
New Smyrna Beach has a well-kept secret about October. The summer crowds are gone, the snowbirds haven’t arrived, and the town’s best chefs have picked this month to show what they can do.
It’s called Coastal Catch, and it’s back for its third year, running October 1–31. The idea is similar to a restaurant week, but it lasts all month and has a local twist. Debbie Meihls of the New Smyrna Beach CVB explains the name on this week’s Eat It Florida podcast. Yes, there’s plenty of seafood, much of it from the Atlantic and the Indian River Lagoon, home to some of the best oysters around. But the “catch” is that it doesn’t have to be seafood at all.
Here’s how it works:
- Ten participating restaurants. The lineup is smaller this year, but Debbie calls it the best of the best.
- Prix fixe menus at $39 or $59, each with at least three courses.
- Lunch options at a few spots, if you’re staying more than a day.
If you’re turning dinner into a weekend, the CVB also runs a staycation program. It offers discounts on room nights plus local excursions like boat tours, kayaking and e-bikes.
In the episode, Debbie also names the one restaurant you can’t leave New Smyrna without trying. She adds a second pick that even Jesse hasn’t been to yet. Hit play above to hear it.
