Restaurant openings and closings don’t generally get reported around here. It happens regularly. Especially in the last couple of years. But when one of Savannah’s most popular restaurants announces they will be shutting their doors for just over a month, then word tends to spread pretty quickly.
Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room, downtown Savannah’s not-so-hidden treasure on Jones Street has announced they’ll be closing their doors from August 29th through September 26th. The staff will get a tiny break after the Summer rush and The Thompson Family-who owns Mrs. Wilkes-will tend to a few things they couldn’t put off much longer.
Thousands of visitors to Savannah plan their trips here around a visit to Mrs. Wilkes every year, those planning to make the trek during September should know there won’t be anyone home for a while.
They are currently scheduled to return on Monday, September 26th.
