Goody’s – A neighborhood breakfast spot by Bull Street Taco

The rock stars at Bull Street Taco are expandin, internally and externally.

For all of the growth we’ve seen along the Bull Street corridor South of Forsyth Park, the one thing we have not seen a lot of is breakfast. Beyond Big Bon Bodega at Bull and 37th, there just aren’t a lot of options for a cup of coffee with your scrambled eggs. John Massey, owner of Bull Street Taco, recognized that. He and his wife/business partner Sharon are addressing it themselves. Goody’s is coming to the corner of Bull and 32nd streets.

“My grandfather owned a diner in Greenville called Goody’s” John said during his talk with us for our Eat It and Like It Podcast “And it’s gonna be kind of an homage to not only him, but my other grandfather who owned a grocery store, and more or less just kind of a fun, nostalgic, funky little place.”

The building was home to Bocci on Bull, an Italian restaurant that closed last year. The plan for now is a fast casual concept. There are many details to iron out but we could expect to order at a counter and have your food brought to your table once it is ready. Goody’s will only serve breakfast and lunch.

“The kitchen there is fairly large, and I really like that, and there’s, I think, a market for some good take out breakfast and some fast sandwiches for lunch, and that’s kinda what we’re trying to do.” John says

One thing Massey also stressed was a need for speed in getting customers in and out, whether it be early morning on their way to work, or a quick option for a business lunch with indoor seating.

“I’m one of those guys who, when I’m hungry, I’m ready to eat.” he says. “I’ve always thought that Savannah needs more places where you can grab and go and get it quick, and be happy with what you purchased, so that’s what we’re gonna try and do.”

Meanwhile, Bull Street Taco a half block away just finished a major expansion of their space. Bull Street Taco v2.0 will be double the size of the original and feature a large full service bar. This photo is of the new space.

With the Bull Street Taco expansion winding down, the focus will not shift full time to the completion of Goody’s. An opening is still a few months away.

“We are going to get it open this year.” John says. “but it’s going to be a couple months at least.”
